Collapse was on the first floor of the site; officials say nearby stores still clean the area, but outlying establishments operate normally
Part of the roof of the first floor of the Shopping Contagem, in the Cabral neighborhood, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, collapsed on Sunday afternoon (7), after a water leak.
The accident occurred on the first floor of the shopping center, next to the bathrooms. Videos recorded on the site show an uninterrupted leak of water from the ceiling before part of it gave way, leaving some lamps hanging from the cables. In one of the records, a girl runs through the water to escape the hall.

Mall officials say the spill started around 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and say they have no knowledge of the people injured. The Civil Defense has been activated and is in place, but has not yet reported the cause of the accident.
Still, according to officials, the shopping center is operating normally: some stores on the first floor, closer to the scene of the accident, are working on cleaning the place and are still not working, but the establishments further away on the floor are working.
The report sought out the mall’s communication advisor for more details on the situation and awaits their positioning.
