Palmeiras beat Ceará 2-1 today (3) at Allianz Parque, for the 13th day of the Brazilian Championship, surpassing the gala performance of an acquaintance of the Alviverde crowd: goalkeeper Fernando Prass. The veteran made important saves, but did not prevent the defeat of the black team. Palmeiras’ goals were scored by Raphael Veiga and Willian – Eduardo Brock, discounted for the visitors.

With the victory, Alviverde reached the third position of the national championship, with 22 points, two less than the Atlético-MG leader. Ceará remains with 14 points, in 12th place.

Vanderlei Luxembourg’s men return to the field next Wednesday (7), against Botafogo, at the Nilton Santos stadium, at 9:30 p.m. (Brasilia time). Vozão goes to Curitiba to face Athletico Paranaense, at Arena da Baixada, on Thursday (8), at 7pm.

The best: Fernando Prass shines in the reunion

The goalkeeper from Ceará was in charge of avoiding a major defeat for his team. He made high-level saves and if it weren’t for him, Palmeiras would have won the match more easily.

The worst: Bruno Henrique falls short in intensity

The Palmeiras midfielder has not played many games as a starter at Palmeiras this year. However, he got another chance in today’s game, but he made a lot of wrong decisions on offense and slowed down the Palmeirean environment.

Palmeiras start well, but cannot get the ball out

Palmeiras started the game dominating the actions, managing to involve the defense of Ceará with exchanges of quick passes in midfield and in attack. This is how Raphael Veiga scored. After a beautiful table between Wesley and Willian, the young forward invaded the area and kicked hard, Prass crashed him, the ball hit the post and Veiga was clear to open the scoring.

However, after suffering the draw a few minutes later, the team led by Vanderlei Luxembourg made too many mistakes on the ball and it became predictable for the opponent: they always explored the sides of the field with Ron or Wesley.

Ceará presses and waits for the right moment to attack

The Ceará team expected Palmeiras to attack on their pitch, but when they were off the ball, they always put too much pressure on Patrick de Paula and managed to complicate Palmeiras’ defense. That was how the team reached a draw.

Midfielder Charles put pressure on the young Alviverde midfielder, and the ball was left for Cléber, who shot over Weverton. In the corner created by this play, Brock was higher than Gómez and tied the score.

Even with absences, the team led by Guto Ferreira managed to attack Palmeiras by abusing the right back with Eduardo and Leandro Carvalho.

Prass meeting pays tribute

Before the kickoff, Marcos Costs Announcer from Allianz Parque, exalted former Palmeiras goalkeeper: “History never fades, achievements are eternal, through history, honor and dignity. On behalf of the Palmeira family, for the first time I will exalt the name of a rival “. In addition, a flag with the image of Prass with Alviverde’s shirt could be seen in the stands.

Game timeline

At 9 minutes into the first stage, Wesley tabulated with Willian, invaded the area and dropped a bomb to defend Fernando Prass. After the goalkeeper’s defense, the ball hit the post and went to Raphael Veiga, who free inside the area pushed to the bottom of the goal.

Ceará reached the tie at 17. After a corner kick by Felipe Silva, defender Eduardo Brock headed hard and gave Weverton no chance.

In the second stage, Palmeiras put pressure on Ceará and explored the distance shots to try to beat Fernando Prass, the goalkeeper winning the duel until the final minutes of the match. At 36 of the final stage, Scarpa finished from the entrance of the area, the defense of the visiting team counterattacked and was at the feet of William. The forward dominated and kicked with no chances for the goalkeeper, decreeing victory in Palmeiras.
