Palmeiras could not recover in the Brazilian Championship and suffered their third consecutive defeat, this time against Coritiba, 3-1, at Allianz Parque, for the 16th day of the competition. The goals of the match were scored by Gabriel Veron, on the Palmerian side, with Robson, on two occasions, and Giovanni Augusto scoring the goals for Coxa.
With the result, Verdão ranks in seventh place, with 22 points. There are already three consecutive defeats in the championship.
For his part, Coritiba reached 16 points and left the relegation zone of the competition, jumping to position 15 at the end of the match.
Palmeiras tries to pressure, but Coritiba scores early
The match started with Palmeiras trying to put pressure on the Coritiba defense, but leaving many spaces in the defense. With the modified team and counting on the return of Weverton and Gabriel Menino, Verdão seemed willing to improve the bad image that remained with the two consecutive defeats.
However, whoever was targeted ended up being Coxa. After seven minutes, Yan Sasse received the ball from the right, near the baseline, and played again. Giovanni Augusto crossed the far post, and Robson appeared only to finish and open the scoring at Allianz Parque after checking the VAR. Palmeiras felt the blow, tried to draw with Zé Rafael, but Verdão found himself lacking in creativity.
Coxa scores another, Luxembourg changes teams and Verdão drops
It seemed that Coritiba was playing at home, so easy to exchange passes in the center of the field and reach the Palmeirense area. After 15 minutes, Giovanni Augusto forced Weverton to make a good save. The second goal seemed a matter of time. And it came in the 23rd minute, when Robson received from outside the area and hit a beautiful shot to extend the score.
Coritiba’s second goal forced Luxembourg to move before the break. Zé Rafael was taken by technical option and Lucas Esteves, injured. Ramires and Willian came in, and Palmeiras began to improve. Two minutes after the substitutions, Patrick de Paula threw Veron, who hit Wilson’s exit to lower the score. Wevcerton still had time to defend a ball head-to-head with Robson before the break.
Palmeiras tries again to pressure
Handicapped on the scoreboard, Palmeiras tried to come back from the break pressing. After four minutes Scarpa crossed, but Luiz Adriano did not reach the ball. Soon after, it was Ron’s turn to try to tie, but the shot was blocked by the Paraná defender.
The pressure continued. At thirteen minutes Willian and Luiz Adriano made a good box, but the number 29 failed to shoot at goal. Gabriel Veron still missed a good head chance after Ron’s cross.
Coritiba scores the third and throws a bucket of cold water
Palmeiras continued the pressure, with more ball possession, but sinning a lot on the defensive side. Coritiba moved the team and became more offensive, with the entries of Neilton and Matheus Bueno. Until twenty minutes later, Coxa expanded the score. Robson received the ball from the left and crossed for Giovanni Augusto to reach the car and score.
In the 27th minute, Gabriel Verón scored the second for Palmeiras in the match, but the goal was disallowed for offside after the VAR review. At the end of the match, Palmeiras kept trying with Scarpa, kicking the net from outside, and with Ron, forcing Wilson to make a good defense. Nothing to change the victory of Coritiba and the weak performance of Palmeiras.
