Vanderlei Luxemburg could not resist losing to Coritiba and was sacked by Palmeiras, tonight (14). The team had a weak performance at Allianz Parque and lost the third consecutive game at the Brazilian Championship. The board had left the arena without a decision, but met at the Soccer Academy and decided to move.

Luxa even gave an interview after the game, demanding an improvement in her posture and that of the athletes. The video was broadcast almost two hours after the game due to a problem on TV Palmeiras.

São Paulo champion, the 68-year-old coach had been living with many recent criticisms. After reaching 20 games without losing (10 wins and 10 draws), the coach accumulated a negative streak against Botafogo, São Paulo and now Coxa, who had not won four games in the competition.

The pressure grew after Shock-King, but the board still understood that they had to give the coach one last chance. Palmeiras, however, paid off a bad start against Coritiba, who were in the relegation zone until the start of the round. Despite the changes in the first stage, the team could not reverse the score.

Luxa says goodbye with 18 victories, 15 draws and five defeats this season – in addition to beating Paulista and leaving Verdão in the middle of the Brasileirão table, he led the team to qualify for the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores undefeated. Throughout the year, however, he failed to get the team to perform well in sequence.

In his fifth stint at the club, the coach says goodbye with the third most games in Verdão’s history. There were 411 games, with 244 victories, 96 draws and 71 defeats.
