Palmeiras beat Fluminense (14) 2-0 today at Allianz Parque, and achieved the eighth consecutive win of the season. With two goals from Raphael Veiga, Verdão overcame a direct confrontation, between two teams fighting for the G4 after 21 rounds of the Brazilian Championship.

Since Vanderlei Luxemburg’s resignation, Palmeiras lost to Fortaleza, but then this sequence of eight wins began, counting Brazil, Copa do Brasil and Libertadores. Coach Abel Ferreira has won four games since arriving and now places Verdão in fifth place with 34 points from 20 games.

Fluminense, in turn, lost the second consecutive game and continues with 32 points after 21 games. Odair Hellmann’s team saw Allianz Parque’s opponent pass the table and are now in eighth place.

Verdão’s next match for the Brazilian will be next Saturday (21), at 9pm, against Goiás, away from home. Tricolor International visit in Beira-Rio, Sunday (22), at 6.15pm.

BEST: RAPHAEL VEIGA SHINES

The midfielder lives an illuminated phase and dictated the live rhythm in tonight’s victory, not only for the two goals. The number 23 was in charge of accelerating Palmeiras in the best moments of the match, and as a reward he ended up being decisive for the result. There are 11 goals for the player in the season.

WORST: IGOR JULIÃO

Fluminense’s defensive system suffered especially on the right side of the field. Igor Julião did not get off to a good start and left a lot of space in the sector. Offensively, he had a low-key performance and barely appeared.

FRED HURTS WITH THE HEATING

Fluminense lost their idol in the match warm-up. The number 9 jersey felt pain in his right ankle as he prepared to start the match. Fred was replaced by Felippe Cardoso, and the captain’s belt eventually passed to Hudson. Felippe had his best chance on a header in the second half, which Jailson caught.

YIELD OF PALM TREES

Verdão had a harder time moving the ball with speed early on and was unable to dominate as quickly as in the first half against Ceará. After the break, the team began drowning Fluminense and scored again with very close goals. The vibration in the divisions was a commendable point for Palmeiras, who continue without losing to Portuguese Abel Ferreira, despite having 13 absences in that game.

FLUMINENSE PERFORMANCE

Well organized, Fluminense managed to scare the back of Palmeiras at various times mainly in the first stage. With intensity in the center of the field and a fluid attack, the Carioca de la Tricolor made a good start and could have opened the scoring in the first stage, but the VAR annulled the goal and could not take advantage of some opportunities. In the second half, when he was behind on the scoreboard, he had to go to the game and gave up space in the defensive sector, which complicated Fluminense’s proposal in the game and practically sealed the result.

GAME CHRONOLOGY

The first stage was tied most of the time, but Fluminense opened the scoring, at 17 minutes, with Luccas Claro. After four minutes of analysis of the VAR, the tender was canceled due to impediment. The best opportunities for Palmeiras were at the end, with Willian and Gustavo Scarpa, Muriel took both.

After the break, Alviverde’s advantage was quickly built: Raphael Veiga, hitting a penalty, opened the scoring in the sixth minute. The midfielder expanded with a beautiful shot, at 14, and gave Verdão peace of mind to control the result.

FLUMINENSE REBOOTED IN ALLIANZ

Fluminense is the team that suffered the most at Allianz Parque. Since the opening of the arena in 2014, there have been seven games between the teams and seven victories for Palmeiras. There are 17 goals scored and only three tricolor in this sequence.
