The president of the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Luis Roberto Barroso, asked voters this Saturday (14) to participate in the first round of municipal elections this Sunday (15). The appeal was made during a speech on national radio and television.

According to the Electoral Tribunal, more than 147 million people can go to the polls this Sunday to elect the next mayors, vice mayors and councilors in 5,567 municipalities.

When making the request, the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) said that the period in which the society could not exercise the right to vote was “sad and ugly”.

Make sure to vote. It was a sad and ugly time when we did not have this right. Your city and Brazil will look like those who go to the polls. To demand, you must participate ”, said the magistrate.

The president of the TSE also called for a conscious vote. “Select your candidate carefully. There is still time. Find out about his seriousness and credibility,” he said.

Later, the magistrate affirmed that, in democracy, there is no “us and them”. “They are what we put there,” he amended.

The minister also said that the Electoral Justice took “the necessary measures to guarantee the health” of the people who will participate in the vote.

Barroso reiterated the mandatory use of a mask to access polling stations, in addition to making other recommendations to prevent the spread of the coronavirus during the electoral process.

“Wear a mask. It is mandatory. And it protects you and others. If possible, bring your own pen. And keep a distance of at least one meter from other people,” he said.

Goodnight! Tomorrow elections will be held to elect mayors and councilors. Brazilian democracy needs you. Don’t miss this encounter with history.

Remember: no one lives in the Union or the United States. People live in cities, where some of the main decisions that affect their lives are made, such as basic education, basic health and sanitation. Do not stay out!

On behalf of the Electoral Justice, I address all voters to make three requests:

The first: be sure to vote. It was sad and ugly the moment when we didn’t have that right. Your city and Brazil will look like those who go to the polls. To demand, you need to participate. Your vote has power. Make a difference.

Second request: vote consciously. Select your candidate carefully. There’s still time. Find out about their seriousness and credibility. In democracy, there is neither us nor them. They are what we put there.

And the third request: vote with confidence. The Electoral Justice took the necessary measures to guarantee the health of all. Do your part. Wear a mask. It is mandatory. And it protects you and others. If possible, bring your own pen. And stay at least one meter away from other people.

Own your destiny. Whatever your political conviction, be part of a chain of good. Help make a better and bigger country. Goodnight!
