Officials from Correios do Distrito Federal and Entorno have been occupying the Cargo Terminal at Brasilia International Airport since 4:00 am on Wednesday (2), one of the main in the country, responsible for air freight transport.
Postal workers are on the 16th consecutive day of strike, throughout Brazil, against the privatization of the state company, and have already paralyzed other centers of operations in the country. The category folded its arms on August 18.
With the occupation of this Wednesday, the entire postal network of the Federal District is paralyzed. TO G1Inframerica stated that “the building is not related to the Brasilia Airport Cargo Terminal and that it had no impact on the operation due to the demonstration.”
“The operations of the Brasilia airport are also developing normally, without changes.”
In a note, Correos reported that “they are taking the appropriate legal measures” to guarantee the unblocking of access to the Cargo Terminal. “The unit does not stop and continues to operate internally, in order to minimize impacts on the operational flow. The company still does not have a locked load balance in the terminal ”(see full note below).
The Military Police monitor the occupation and stated, in a note, that the protest is taking place in a peaceful manner and with no end in sight.
According to the National Federation of Postal Service Workers (Fentect), in August the state company eliminated 70 clauses from the collective agreement that would remain in force until 2021, according to a collective agreement of the Superior Labor Court.
On strike, postal workers occupy cargo terminal at Brasilia airport
“Rights such as 30% of the additional risk, food vouchers, 180-day maternity leave, childcare allowance, death compensation, assistance to children with special needs, payment of nighttime overtime and overtime, ”says a note from the federation.
In a final hearing held by the TST, the post office rejected the High Court’s proposal in an attempt to end the strike.
The national federation representing postal workers decided to go on strike on August 18. According to the entity, there is no deadline for the end of the strike in the state company.
The strikers oppose the privatization of the Post Office, complain about what they call “neglect of workers’ health” in the pandemic and ask that labor rights be guaranteed.
The organization says that since July, the unions have tried to talk to the management of the state-owned company about these requests, which they said did not happen.
On August 26 and 27, the Superior Labor Court (TST) and representatives of the Post Office met, but there was no agreement to suspend the strike. The company said in a statement that the workers’ adherence to the strike is “low” and that it expects the return of some of the striking workers to activities.
The vice-president of the TST, Minister Vieira de Mello Filho, presented a proposal to renew the 79 clauses in force in the collective agreement, without adjustments in the economic clauses.
The proposal was accepted by the employees, but Correos only accepted the maintenance of nine of the clauses.
“Correos is taking the appropriate legal measures to guarantee the unblocking of access to the Cargo Terminal. The unit does not stop and continues to operate internally, in order to minimize the impacts on the operational flow. The company still does not have a balance of the load locked in the terminal.
It is worth mentioning that, in a precautionary measure granted this Tuesday (1st), the Minister of the Superior Labor Court, Kátia Magalhães Arruda, determined that the federations refrain from preventing the free transit of goods, people and postal cargo in all units . from the post office. The penalty for non-compliance is a daily fine of R $ 100 thousand.
The Correios repudiate such acts, which demonstrate the lack of commitment of the unions to society, compromising an essential service to the population. The company appreciates the efforts of the employees who remain firm in the purpose of serving society and is counting on the return to work of those who are still on strike, since the matter is in court and will be resolved by the TST ” .
