Due to Covid-19, injuries and removal, the Fluminense He took to the field, this Sunday, with eight absences, six of them as a starter, to face the International, in Beira-Rio, for the 22nd day of the brazilian championship. Even with so many changes the team won, upset, 2-1. And the result was widely celebrated by coach Odair Hellmann, who, in a post-match press conference, deemed it fair:
– We also have to point out that when you change a lot from one game to another, you end up needing more time for the movements to fit. Today we are looking for a different move due to all the problems we had during the week. It takes some time. Although it is a variation of ours, but they are different characteristics. For all that, we were worthy of the result from start to finish. We knew how to get out of an adverse scoreboard, maintain the maturity of the game and build the movements to be able to win. And it was a very important victory for our trip.

From the last game (2-0 defeat to Palmeiras) until this one, Odair “lost” Dodi, permanently retired by the board due to the renovation mess, Igor Julião, with muscular discomfort, and Hudson, Michel Araújo and Nino, with Covid-19 – in addition to Fred, who sprained his ankle before the match against Verdão. Egídio and Fernando Pacheco complete the list of absences, since they also tested positive for the new coronavirus.

– I think we are getting a regularity. Of course, the last two games, two losses, but we came from eight games with a regularity of almost two months of competition. And in the Brazilian Championship, which is so disputed, so difficult. This is a regularity of scoring, performance. It is natural and it is happening to all teams in the championship: there is an oscillation within the championship itself due to the difficulty of the opponents. But we have managed to maintain a regularity and, therefore, we have this score and we are at the top of the table.
– Regarding the analysis of the match, the 1st part was very truncated, where Inter in a movement between the lines found a table and scored the goal. We had worked on this situation at Inter, we were talking, it ended up happening, so it is an adjustment that we have to make. Of movement, especially when the opponents propose this movement between the lines, but only that movement happened in the 1st half. We managed to have possession, but again it was possession until the end of the field, where we could not translate that possession, circulation and construction into clear goal situations. We end up with more difficulties in this final part. This is what we are working hard on to be able to translate this possession into a final part so that you can create opportunities, shots and, consequently, get much closer to the goal.
– When the second goal was canceled, we already created a clearer imposition situation. We had the ball, but we did not have the effectiveness and control of the final part to be effective in finishing. Inter managed to build that building, but then they couldn’t even fight back or build, because possession was under our control.
– In the second half, I think we adjusted these situations. The Lucca ball, which we ended up changing at halftime, reversing it, we trained this reversal of rhythm a lot. We start somehow, we invest in the interval. It was fruitful in the tie. Afterwards, the team maintained solidity, possession until the end of the game, where Inter began to have a little more possession and to cross the ball into the area, but without bringing us much danger. For us, it opened the possibility of doing the second, as we did, and the possibility of even seeking a higher score. These are adjustments that we must make for all games.
– We also have to point out that when you change a lot from one game to another, you end up needing more time for the movements to fit. Today we are looking for a different move due to all the problems we had during the week. It takes some time. Although it is a variation of ours, but they are different characteristics. For all this, we were worthy of the result from start to finish, we knew how to get out of an adverse score, maintain the maturity of the game and build the plays so that we could win. And it was a very important victory for our trip.
MARCOS PAULO’S INCOME AS CENTROAVANTE
– Marcos Paulo really has that characteristic of knowing how to play, making that movement between the lines and has the capacity for the penultimate pass. Of course, it will not be a Fred, by characteristic, it will not be a Felippe (Cardoso), by characteristic. Nor do we look for these types of movements when the game starts from within, being the most terminal player. Just when I put him inside in this situation, I want him to do deep movements, because he has that ability, but I try to take advantage of the movements and passes for this first ball contest. To be a construction a little more through movements and between the lines, movements of depth, parallel than movements so that that first ball of imposition is played that is not its characteristic. Every time we come across this characteristic, we really have to be patient and calm because he will not contest the ball in the same way as other players with this characteristic.
– In my opinion, he did well in the game in all aspects. It took a bit of time … At the beginning of the game, maybe it wasn’t even for him, maybe it was for the team that didn’t find his moves, Nenê’s. When the team started to find these moves more in the 1st half, we managed to put him in the game, we managed to put Nenê in the game. This is what we’ve focused on in our day-to-day work so that we can put these guys in the middle and get into the game as quickly as possible, so they can produce offensively.
– I must point out that we work all week with a tactical situation. At the end of the week we lost a move, on Saturday we lost another move. So actually, I coached the team on Saturday for the game. The movements, not so much, because it is a variation of ours. Players of different characteristics enter and it can take some time to find yourself within that environment in such a competitive game. Maybe it took a while, really, but Marcos Paulo didn’t, the whole team took a while to get together. From the moment we met, I think not only were we able to build initially, but we managed to start creating definition possibilities, which is the most important thing.
– We need and will work more and more to develop ourselves. And it’s being grateful and very proud of the group I work for. We don’t focus on problems, we focus on solutions. And it is finding solutions. When you lose players, you run out of options in this relationship of variation, of group capacity, but other players have entered, they have received the opportunity and have given a very positive response. For example, André, who started very well, a very difficult game. Congratulations to the group for the posture.
– At the beginning I would keep the structure, to make the movement as simple as possible between the players. But I lost two more moves to keep the structure (Dodi and Hudson). And it was already within a game plan, the strategy we made of the opponent, the search for variation. It ended up happening towards the end of the week. So maybe that’s why it took a bit of time to sync the movement. But when it synchronized and they met, we entered the game strong, consistent, and we managed to win the match.
– All the players, Marcos Paulo, André, when they play well, they are solutions for everyone. And that is what the coach is looking for, a solution within the group, in different movements … I used Marcos Paulo on the side, on the inside, I started with other players … This is an ability that the group must have. And I have it very clear with them. It is the group that makes the difference. Of course there are individualities. But it is about strengthening the whole: organization, game idea. And then, enhance and improve individualities. Today Marcos Paulo has managed to make a good start because the team gave him the chance to make a good start after the opening moments. I seek to encourage and give confidence to the players so that they are prepared to be ready to give an answer, when they enter or when they start.
– I will say a very strong prayer for the employees and players who are with Covid, because they are very important to us. That they recover as everyone recovered and had no major problems. I also take it to everyone. The large number of people who have died … We have to be very careful, we have to protect ourselves, protect others, because this situation comes back and comes back strong. We have to take a look at this.
– I will take the opportunity to say a prayer so that it is nothing with Iago. We still don’t have a more specific movement to pass on to them. I hope it was just a success, so it wasn’t worse. When we have the information, we will let you know as soon as possible.
TEAM REACTION AFTER TWO DEFEATS
– Against Grêmio he was an exception in all aspects, we could not maintain our standard. Even though some matches might underperform, we were able to produce and test something in-game. But against Grêmio we had a lot of difficulty, we didn’t meet at any time, although it varied in tactical aspects. But I don’t usually treat exceptions as a rule. I have to be careful that this does not become a rule.
– We resumed, mainly in the 1st half, against Palmeiras, then we had a penalty situation and they opened 1 to 0. We are still in the game, but they managed to score. There, we did not return as a whole, but we gave an indication of the return of our standard of performance, our standard of possession, play, build, competitiveness. Today we have evolved in this aspect as a whole. At first they managed to find a movement within its characteristics. But as a whole, the team maintained a strong standard of competence, organization and construction. In the 1st half with a little less effectiveness in the offensive part, and in the 2nd half with a little more effectiveness. It is this pattern that we have to maintain, so that we continue doing this beautiful walk that we are doing now.
