The OAB today filed an action before the Supreme Court to declare unconstitutional a decree of Jair Bolsonaro last year that created the Citizen Base Registry.
The organization says that the database collects information on Brazilians without control and transparency mechanisms and can be used to create files against government opponents.
“Such information can be used for intense political control of citizens, typical of totalitarian regimes,” says the action.
The regulation, adds the OAB, also goes against the recent General Law on Protection of Personal Data, which allows people to know and control what personal data can be used by public bodies and companies.
