The nomination of Kassio Nunes Marques was approved on October 21 by the full Senate, by 57 votes to 10. Before, it was heard by the House Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ).

Nunes Marques, as he will be called in court, is 48 years old and can remain on the Supreme Court until 2047, when he will turn 75, the age at which ministers must retire under current rule.

Born in Teresina (PI), he was a lawyer for 15 years, was part of the National Commission of Electoral Law and Political Reform of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in Piauí and was also a judge of the Regional Electoral Court of the state.

Since 2011, he was one of the judges of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF-1), whose headquarters are in Brasilia. He was elected to the court by then-President Dilma Rousseff and joined the Court in the quota of vacancies for legal professionals.

After being nominated by Bolsonaro, Marques was praised by magistrates and the OAB. However, he received criticism on social networks from supporters of the president, annoyed by the support given to those then appointed by STF ministers Dias Toffoli and Gilmar Mendes, as well as politicians from the parties called Centrão, a block of deputies that began to support the government.
