Now it’s official: Nokia returned to the Brazilian market, and soon in its debut HMD Global (company that licenses the brand) begins selling this Sunday (3) the Nokia 2.3, an entry-level smartphone with pure Android, with a price suggested R $ 899.

The Nokia 2.3 can be found at the company’s online retailer in three colors: gray, green, and gold. In addition, it will be possible to buy devices in Submarino, Americanas.com, Shoptime and Pernambucanas. It should start appearing on the sites around 10 a.m. from today.

Before talking about the details of the device (which you can check below), it’s worth understanding a bit about the brand’s return to Brazil. In this case, the company behind it all is HMD Global, a Finnish company that has authorized the use of the brand since 2016.

According to Juan Olano, HMD Global portfolio manager for the Americas, this carries a number of responsibilities. “We have to align the requirements of our products with those of Nokia, and there is a complete quality control carried out by them,” he explained during a conversation with the Gizmodo Brazil.

I really hope that the song “Tijolão” was not a preview of the company’s return to the local market, despite being a conspiracy theory that I personally like very much.

Despite the brand’s return to Brazil, HMD Global will work in partnership with Multilaser. According to Junior Favaro, director of marketing and sales for HMD Global in Brazil, the role of the Brazilian company will be to provide support in the distribution and marketing of products, since the company has a product distribution chain throughout Brazil.

Nokia’s relaunch in Brazil will be with an imported simple setup device. The Nokia 2.3 has a 6.2-inch HD screen with a small drop-shaped cutout. For storage, the smartphone has 32GB (expandable to 512GB with memory card), 2GB of RAM, and a MediaTek Helio A22 processor.

The camera set is compatible with other inputs. So on the back, the Nokia 2.3 has two sensors, one 13MP with f / 2.2 aperture and the other 2MP deep. With this setup, the company promises clear images, especially by pairing its hardware with artificial intelligence. Then you will have HDR photos, automatic noise correction in the images, in addition to facilitating the bokeh effect, taking portrait mode photos by blurring the background and even with the possibility of changing the lighting of the scene.

Something the company is very proud of is having pure Android. Then, the device will arrive with Android Pie, however, after a week, it will receive the update for Android 10. Nokia says it has a “philosophy of making products improve over time.” In a simplified way, the company means that all devices receive at least two years of operating system updates and three years of security updates.

In fact, if the promise is fulfilled, Nokia devices may have an update cycle worthy of Pixel devices, developed by Google and not sold in the national market.

Last but not least, Nokia 2.3 has a 4,000 mAh battery. With this ability, the company claims that the autonomy of the device, with Android’s smart battery function, can reach almost two days.

Despite the release of Nokia 2.3, HMD Global hopes to bring more devices to the Brazilian market. I do not doubt that the company tries to bring phones with WhatsApp, which should be very useful for those who need the basic concepts of communication, in addition to the rest of the brand’s line of smartphones.
