A recently graduated doctor died on Friday morning (6) at the Evangelical Hospital, in Curitiba, after not resisting the injuries caused by burns caused by the flames of a fireplace in a bar in the Center. Leonardo Mateus Janeri Barbosa, 24, suffered a fire in 70% of his body while an employee of the establishment lit the fireplace. The case occurred on Wednesday (4) and is being investigated by the Civil Police.
Leonardo died less than a month after obtaining his medical degree, in October, at the Faculdade Evangélica Mackenzie, according to the family. He was registered in the Regional Council of Medicine of Paraná (CRM) on October 20 and was already working on duty in Almirante Tamandaré, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba.
According to the Homicide Investigation and Personnel Protection Police (DHPP), the fuel used by the bar staff to light the fireplace accidentally spilled on Leonardo, who was in the space with six other friends. The version is confirmed by the family.
“They had those containers with fire on the table and they went to put the alcohol refill with a five-liter gallon. Then they collided, they stumbled, whatever. It was a good part of it. I understand it was not intentional, but they have to. Who throws alcohol on a five gallon fire, man? “Asks Guilherme Janeri, Leonardo’s twin brother.
In a note on social networks, the Oak Wine and Beer bar reported that “it deeply regrets the death of Leonardo Mateus Janeri Barbosa, due to the accident that occurred last Wednesday.”
“We are at the disposal of the authorities for the investigations and other necessary measures and, in this moment of pain, we sympathize and express our deepest condolences to family and friends,” he added in a statement.
OR Twitter He sent a message on WhatsApp made available by the bar on social networks to listen to the version of the establishment, but did not receive a refund.
The doctor was a volunteer and planned to help in Africa.
Leonardo was a volunteer in the “Fraternidade sem Fronteiras” initiative. He used to share trips to Africa as a medical student. According to the brother, the doctor visited the mainland twice. The victim’s intention was to go every year, now as a doctor, since he had work in the area.
“He went to Africa twice, before graduating. He had plans to go every year, now that he had graduated and had his own money,” said the brother, who asked his friends and family for prayers for Leonardo. Family members did not report the doctor’s funeral and burial sites.
