“Because Covid-19 is a new disease, we are beginning to understand some of its long-term effects on the health of patients,” said lead study author Bin Cao of the National Center for Respiratory Medicine.
The WHO (World Health Organization) warns that the coronavirus can cause serious persistent sequelae in some infected people, even if they are healthy and have not been hospitalized.
The study recruited 1,733 patients who had Covid-19 with an average age of 57, who were discharged from the Jin Yin-tan Hospital in Wuhan between January and May 2020.
The survey found that 76% of patients still have symptoms, 63% complained of fatigue or muscle weakness, and 26% face trouble sleeping.
