Moro calls a press conference and must announce the resignation of the Ministry of Justice | Politics

The allies of the Minister of Justice, Sergio Moro, said they were surprised with the publication, in the “Official Gazette” this Friday (24), of the dismissal of the delegate Maurício Valeixo, now former director general of the Federal Police. According to the minister’s interlocutors, Moro did not like the decision of President Jair Bolsonaro and will announce his departure from the government at a press conference scheduled for 11 a.m. at the ministry’s headquarters.

Valeixo’s exoneration, in the newspaper, is signed by Moro and Bolsonaro. But, according to sources linked to the minister, his name seems formal.

The Federal Police is subordinate to the Minister of Justice, and it is usual, in cases like this, for the head of the portfolio to sign the dismissal. The signature that appeared without Moro’s consent was another unusual move that confirms that Valeixo’s departure was not agreed with the minister, much less this Friday.

The government published that the dismissal was “on demand” (when the official himself requests to leave office), but sources confirm that Valeixo did not resign, he was exonerated. He felt that there was no objective reason why he should not remain in office.

On Thursday, in conversation with Bolsonaro, Moro said that if Valeixo left, he would leave the ministry.

Valeixo’s resignation is Bolsonaro’s old wish, at least since August last year. At that time, Moro and other members of the government managed to convince the president to retain the FP general director.

Valeixo is Moro’s trusted man. Bolsonaro warned the minister that he would replace the FP director general at a meeting at 9 am Thursday.
