It was eight years of a successful international career, until Eloisa Pinto Fontes, 26, made the headlines of Brazil and the world after being rescued from the interior of Morro do Cantagalo, in the South Zone of Rio, last Tuesday, direct to the Phillipe Pinel Municipal Institute, in Botafogo. But the Alagoas drama started much earlier, when it was still shining on the catwalks of major European fashion weeks.

Eloisa left the small town of Piranhas, in the interior of Alagoas, at the age of 17, to be a model in São Paulo. There he met Andre Birleanu, Russian supermodel who would change her life. They went to live together in London, a leap in the career of the aspiring top model. But as the career took off, personal life became increasingly tumultuous, even after the couple’s daughter was born.

Friends say Birleanu proved abusive and controlling. Without family support and fearful of losing her husband’s support in the profession, Eloisa supported her.

– I think he got into this situation due to lack of support. The family has always been oblivious to what happened – says a friend who did not want to identify herself.

But the separation became inevitable and the divorce occurred in 2016. The ex-partner began a legal battle for the custody of their daughter. Birleanu was victorious, which was a severe blow to Eloisa’s life.

The former agent of the model in New York, Rio de Janeiro Paulo Fernando Santos, says that Andre Birleanu “played dirty” on the courts, using compromising photos of the former, which also tarnished the image of the model.

– She suffers a lot with these images – says the booker, who also witnessed the suffering of the model for not living with her daughter: – The day Eloisa finds her again, half of her problems will be solved – she believes.

The girl is now 7 years old and lives under the care of a guardian, instituted by the British courts. Eloisa does not have access to the child.

Birleanu denies all the allegations by Paulo Fernando Santos.

Ex-boyfriend talks about ‘danger’ in marriage

Carioca resident in New York for years, Elisa’s ex-boyfriend, who preferred to keep his name a secret, said that the ex-husband of the model is “very dangerous.”

– He (Birleanu) is the son of gangsters. I prefer to preserve myself – said the model by voice messages.

The boy and Eloisa separated a month before she became involved with the Russian and they remained friends. According to him, Eloisa “fell into addiction” because of depression and her ex-husband, who is “a stone in her shoe.”

An ex-girlfriend of Birleanu, who also does not want to identify herself, said that Eloisa’s daughter is well, away from her father and in the care of a “foster family.”

– Andre was arrested in England after beating another woman and losing custody of the girl. Now he’s in Milan making another girl’s life hell. He is involved with the mob. He ended the lives of Eloísa and many women. Eloisa was a princess, a good person, she didn’t have a breakout. She moved in with him and told me that she was afraid, that he beat her and threatened to kill her.

Health: signs of instability

The first public signs of Eloisa Fontes’ instability appeared in June 2019, when the model disappeared for five days in New York and was found wandering around a nearby city. But it was in Rio de Janeiro, throughout 2020, where Alagoas, 26, lost control, to the point of being hospitalized three times in psychiatric institutions.

The last one was last Tuesday, when she was transferred to the Philippe Pinel Municipal Institute, in Botafogo, after being rescued from Morro do Cantagalo, where she lived on the street.

Before, he had already had a quick visit to the same unit and another to the Jurandyr Manfredini Hospital, in Curicica. In all three situations, he showed signs of disorientation.

A model friend who asked not to be identified says that lately she realized that Eloisa’s mental health was fragile.

– We were talking by video call, calls and messages. She has psychiatric problems and has never been assisted, she says. – The world of fashion is very complicated and involves a lot of trauma – he says.

In recent months, the model began to alternate moments of stability and crisis. She left the apartment she shared with her ex-boyfriend in Barra da Tijuca and began to be seen in the streets and communities of Rio. She lived for a time in Cidade de Deus and another season in Jacarezinho, from where she left in August for her first hospitalization, in Zona West. Under medical attention, he found his mother, who came from Alagoas when she found out about the model’s situation. Days after discharge, still unstable, she was transferred for the first time to the Pinel Institute, where she spent two weeks.

He left Rio, but returned and went to live in the streets of Morro do Cantagalo, from where he left for the new hospitalization in Pinel. In the next few days, Eloisa Fontes must be transferred to a private psychiatric institution in the West Zone of Rio.

successful career

From her first contract, at age 17, until last season in New York, before returning to Brazil, Eloisa Fontes lived the dream of every young aspiring model. They were eight years of international travel, parades in the main “fashion weeks” in Europe, meetings with celebrities from the world of fashion.

Between 2013 and 2015, the period in which she lived her professional career -before the exhausting legal battle for the custody of her daughter-, Eloisa built an enviable portfolio of covers and campaigns, despite facing serious personal problems.

During the Paris and Milan fashion weeks, she walked for some of the biggest brands on the planet, such as Armani, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Kenzo and Stella McCartney. It also featured covers of big-name publications such as Elle, Glamor, L’Officiel, and Harper’s Bazaar.

Eloisa’s reputation in the fashion world was among the best:

– Rarely missed a casting or was late. She was a worker and earned her money – recalls former agent Paulo Fernando Santos.
