Miss Brazil 1957 dies at 84

The model Therezinha Morango, winner of Miss Brazil 1957 and second place in the Miss Universe of the same year, died yesterday at the age of 84, a victim of cardiac arrest. The Manaus City Council (AM) confirmed the news on its official website.

Born in São Paulo de Olivença, in the interior of Amazonas, Therezinha represented her state in beauty contests, but had lived in Rio de Janeiro for years with her family.

Therezinha was the first Amazon to win Miss Brazil. In Miss Universe 1957, held in California (USA), she lost the title only to the Peruvian Gladys Zender.

Two years after the contest, she married businessman Alberto Pittigliani, with whom she had a couple of children, Alberto Júnior and Andrea, moving to Rio. A widower since 2003, Morango leaves behind her children and a granddaughter.
