The plant is located in Ferreira Gomes, 137 kilometers from Macapá. According to the MME, the unit generates an additional 25 megawatts, which allowed it to bring power to another 10% of the state.

With partial supply, the poppies receive power through a 6-hour rotation, between regions, but the system is faulty. The state government announced that it should change the schedule later this Wednesday.

  • UNDERSTAND: the causes and consequences of the blackout in the PA

During a November 3 storm in Macapá, an explosion, followed by a fire, occurred in the state’s main substation, allowing Amapá to access the National Interconnected System (SIN).

The main hypothesis is that lightning caused the incident, which caused a cut in the power supply to 90% of the population of Amapá (about 765 thousand people).

With the lack of light there were problems with the supply of drinking water and telecommunications, in addition to queues at gas stations and business losses. Around 70 protests were registered due to the blackout and power outage.

Minister Bento Albuquerque announced that the supply would reach all of Amapá by the end of this week. A court decision determined that the person responsible for the transmission of electricity has until Thursday (12) to make the “complete solution” of the blackout viable.

Through the National Electric System Operator (ONS), MME investigates the causes of the blackout. There are also open investigations in the Civil Police, the Federal Police and the National Electric Power Agency (Aneel).

The MME explained that the substation affected by the fire must operate with two transformers and have a third support for (reservation). With the fire, one piece of equipment was completely destroyed, another was overloaded and damaged, and the third had been under maintenance since December 2019.

On Saturday (7), the federal government, together with other agencies, managed to activate the third transformer, which allowed the power supply to be gradually resumed.

Until the two new transformers in the substation are activated, the forecast was that this would happen in 30 days, the consumer units receive energy from various sources: SIN, Coaracy Nunes Plant and power generators transported from Manaus.
