At 54, the blows are not that strong. Evasion, so fast in the past, always seemed to be delayed by a few milliseconds. But upon his return to the ring, Mike Tyson showed glimpses of the man who tormented boxing three decades ago. Throughout the match against Roy Jones Jr., another 51-year-old veteran, the boxer looked for the attack, but the knockout did not come. This Saturday, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Jones managed to stop any attempt by Tyson to give a result to the exhibition fight. In the end, according to the protocol of the event, the two were declared champions. A symbolic draw, almost a tribute to boxers.

Since it was an exhibition fight, there were no points. Each of the eight rounds lasted only two minutes. All to try to maintain the physical integrity of the two fifties. Tyson, however, was more aggressive and tried to knock him out the entire time. On the other hand, Jones, who has always stood out for the speed of his movements, stopped his rival and tied the fight at all times. In the end, the two celebrated the possibility of getting back in the ring.

– I’m happy with that (a tie). I think I managed to entertain people, people are happy with me. Sometimes those two minutes (per round) feel like three (laughs). I will definitely do it again. I am very happy to have passed the eighth round. Knockout would mean nothing. It’s more meaningful to me to be able to fight eight rounds, to know that I could fight ten, Tyson said after the fight.

Tyson agride, Jones sure

They were 15 years from their natural habitat. This Saturday, Tyson returned to the ring and tried to relive the best days of his career. On the way to the ring, the tension was printed on the faces of the two boxers. When the opening gong sounded, Tyson took the lead and charged at Jones. Although there was no point count, Tyson showed strength and dominated the first round.

In the second round, Roy Jones Jr. looked tired. Throughout, he sought the clinch and tried to escape Tyson’s blows. Still, he managed to land a jab, although it didn’t affect his rival as much. Soon, Tyson was tired too. With each attempt to attack, Jones sought the hug, tying the fight.

In the fifth round, Tyson found a way to hit Jones. The boxer had a good streak, and the opponent seemed to feel more, but managed to stay upright. He continued to the end. In the last of eight rounds, Tyson broke through and made the last attempt at a knockout that didn’t come. In the meeting of legends, nobody won.

Mike Tyson is considered one of the biggest names in the sport of all time. By combining talent and controversy, the boxer became something of a pop culture icon, for better and for worse. With a lineup of iconic wins and catastrophic losses, Tyson has been out of the ring since 2005, when he was defeated by Irishman Kevin McBride.

At just 20 years old, Mike Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion of the world and built an impressive record throughout his career. There were 58 fights, 50 victories and 44 of them by knockout.

Roy Jones Jr., for his part, is known as Captain Hook, due to the power of his blow. He has 66 wins, 47 of which are knockouts and nine losses. His last clash was in 2018, in a win against his compatriot Scott Sigmon. He is a former middleweight and super middleweight champion. But he excelled even in the light heavyweight category, winning the belt from the major boxing organizations. In 2003, he even refused a million dollar fight against Mike Tyson. The boxer still has an Olympic silver medal, won in 1988, at the Seoul Games.

Before the fight, former NBA star is beaten by youtuber

Among the supporting players of the night, the most anticipated match was just before the main event. Former NBA star Nate Robinson was no match for youtuber Jake Paul and was knocked out in the second round after hitting the ground twice more.

Their fight started out tense, with both of them reaching for the clutch the entire time. The two were even warned by the judge: “It’s not wrestling.” Jake Paul, however, showed strength by hitting a right cross to the former NBA player’s face. In the second round, the youtuber knocked down Robinson again with a cross. The rival got up, but returned to the canvas with the same script. A cleared knockout before the main fight of the night.

The night wasn’t just about fighting at Staples Center. In an event intended to serve as entertainment, music stars also participated. Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg took the stage before the main event and served as a warm-up. Before Tyson and Roy Jones stepped into the ring, Ne-Yo sang the American anthem and ended up raising his fist in an anti-racist act.

Outside the ring, Tyson becomes controversial and has been arrested for rape

The troubled teenager has become a boxing legend. At just 20 years old, Mike Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion of the world and built an impressive record throughout his career. There were 58 fights, 50 victories and 44 of them by knockout. But the boxer’s career was also marked by many confusions, controversies and crimes. In 1992, he was sentenced to six years in prison for sexually abusing Miss Desiree Washington. He served half his sentence and was released in March 1995 for good behavior.

After being released, Tyson returned to fight and win. Shortly after, in 1997, he starred in one of the most aggressive episodes in boxing history by biting Holyfield’s ear during a fight, being disqualified and expelled for a year from competition. Outside the ring, he continued to have police footsteps on assault and drug possession charges. One of these episodes was in Brazil, in 2005, when he attacked a cameraman and was arrested. That same year, after two defeats, he retired from boxing.
