With its increasing popularity due to the number of people working from home, Teams continues to gain new resources for remote collaborative work. The news comes at a time when the service breaks new usage records.

The first feature is similar to that offered by rival Zoom and is the ability to change the background during video conferencing. The user will be able to choose between a series of images provided by Microsoft.

The second new feature is the option to make calls with Skype users and vice versa, but this depends on a configuration made by the administrator of the company account.

Another new feature is a button to have an instant meeting in the room with your participants. For those who received an invitation to join a group in Teams, the page now lists options for downloading the app, continuing in the browser, or opening the app (if already installed).

Finally, chat windows can now be separated from the main screen of the program and the limit for participants has been increased from 5,000 to 10,000.

Usage log

Microsoft reported that the teams set a new usage record during the COVID-19 pandemic. The service reached the 2.7 billion meeting minute mark on March 31, an increase of 200% from the number on March 16.

The increase was registered not only in the version used by companies, but also in the service for teaching. According to Microsoft, 183,000 users in 175 countries use the educational version of Teams.
