On Christmas Eve, the day when families were united, dressed in kindness and compassion, loving each other, seeking peace in these difficult times, we were all surprised by the tragic news of the femicide that victimized the right judge Viviane Vieira do Amaral. Arronenzi, brutally stabbed by the ex-husband and father of her three minor daughters.

It is a heinous crime, characterized by an extreme form of cruelty, committed by a man overcome by hatred who possibly thought he had lost his “property”.

“Every woman has the right to a life free of violence” – with this banner, the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro, through its administrative bodies and, above all, its magistrates, comes to ratify its commitment to strengthen the state network of facing violence against women in this state, whose teamwork with various allied agencies has allowed effective access to justice in cases of domestic violence and femicide.

Figures from the Judicial Observatory of Violence against Women (database created by the TJ-RJ) show that, in 2019, 143 new cases of femicide came to the attention of the Court of Rio de Janeiro and, in 2020, 68 new cases . Each one of them brings the life story of a woman, a victim, who cannot go unpunished!

May the crime that victimized Judge Viviane be a game changer, starting the biggest campaign against domestic and family violence against women, eradicating this wound from our Brazil once and for all!

Finally, as president of the court, echoing the voice of all magistrates and public officials, I pay sincere tribute to Judge Viviane, seen as a person of docility who showed herself to all, an exemplary mother and magistrate, placing myself next to their daughters. minors for any support that is required at the institutional level.

God bless us!
