A young woman, 25, underwent a surgical procedure last Thursday (10), in which a 20 kg tumor was removed from her ovary. The case took place at the Juruá Regional Hospital in the city of Cruzeiro do Sul, in Acre.

The medical team that worked on the surgery took more than three hours to complete the removal. The young woman remains hospitalized and must be discharged next Saturday (12), as determined by G1.

The discovery of the tumor occurred after the young woman went to a gynecologist for the continuous growth of her belly for three months.

“It was a tumor in the right ovary, which grew and took over the entire abdomen of the patient in about three months. A very large tumor that weighed about 20 kilos. [O tumor] It was attached to the intestine, but the adherence had been removed and completely removed, and there was no problem, ”said clinical director Marlon Holland, who participated in the surgery.

“This type of case is not common, it is rare. We’ve had a few cases here, but I don’t remember that size, they tend to be much smaller. After the removal, the tumor was sent for biopsy, but the possibility that it is benign is very high, now we are waiting ”, concluded the doctor.

The patient even thought she was pregnant because of the volume of her belly.

“She said that people kept asking if she was pregnant. I ordered the tests and we realized it was a giant tumor and we scheduled him for surgery. It was a very fast growing tumor. The patient is a Jehovah’s Witness and did not accept blood transfusions, if necessary. He even signed a deadline, but thank God it wasn’t necessary, ”Rodrigues said.

So far, the doctor responsible for the first appointment and the young man have not been located.
