A possible departure of Ferrari from Formula 1 made headlines again after critical comments from boss Mattia Binotto, dissatisfied with the proposal for an even stricter budget limit to control the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The attitude of the Italian team has already provoked a reaction at McLaren, in favor of greater financial control: in the opinion of Chief Zak Brown, the event will survive if the Italians leave.
Brown emphasizes that he wants Ferrari to stay long term. However, the comment comes with an analysis: the team is not irreplaceable, and even a nine-team, 18-car championship would still be viable.
“I would hate to see them [Ferrari] leaving our sport, “Brown said.” I would hate to see someone go, so it’s certainly not something we want to see happen. Still, I think the category can survive with 18 cars on the grid. I think the other engine providers they could cover the two teams currently backed by them, “he continued.

Ferrari has already said it has no plans to exit F1. However, the possibility remained between the lines when Binotto proposed the search for a championship in which he could express his “true DNA”, without financial limitations.
