The presidents of the Chamber and the Senate criticized this Saturday (24) the Minister of the Environment, Ricardo Salles. It was a response to Salles’s attacks on the Chief Minister of the Government Secretariat, Luiz Eduardo Ramos.
The messages are public statements of support for Ramos in the fight with the Minister of the Environment. The mayor, Rodrigo Maia, of Democrats, was the first to defend Ramos on a social network.
Maia wrote: “Minister Ricardo Salles, not satisfied with destroying Brazil’s environment, has now decided to destroy the government itself.”
Shortly after, the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre, also from the Democrats, published a message, in a coordinated movement, to show dissatisfaction with Salles’ statements and to support Ramos.
Alcolumbre said: “Without going into the substance of the matter, I make two reservations. 1 – As head of the Legislature, I note the importance of Minister Luiz Eduardo Ramos in the institutional relationship with Congress. 2 – It is not healthy for a minister to offend publicly to another minister. This only weakens the government and is bad for Brazil. ”
The public fight between the environment ministers and the Government Secretariat began with a publication made on Thursday night by Ricardo Salles, also on a social network, in which he asked Ramos to put aside the position of Maria Gossip ” .
Salles attributed to Ramos the information published by the newspaper O Globo that said that he would be stretching the rope with the government military and testing the armor that he would receive from President Jair Bolsonaro.
On Thursday, Salles ordered the cancellation of the firefighting operations, alleging there were no resources. This suspension lasted a few hours, but caused fatigue with the military because the vice president, General Hamilton Mourão, commands the National Council of the Amazon.
Ricardo Salles received the public support of deputies who support the most ideological wing of the Bolsonaro government. Among them, Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of the president.
Along with Minister Ramos were the three government leaders: in the Senate, Fernando Bezerra, from the MDB; in the Chamber, Ricardo Barros, from Progressistas; and in Congress, Eduardo Gomes, from the BMD, as well as parliamentarians from the allied base.
Salles said he will not comment on the matter again because he does not want to fuel the controversy. Minister Ramos was also silent.
