Residents of various cities in Maciço do Baturité say they heard a loud roar on Saturday morning (10). Although it was speculated among the popular that it was thunder, or even the crash of an aircraft, the phenomenon was caused by a small asteroid that entered the Earth’s atmosphere, according to the Brazilian Meteorite Monitoring Network (Bramon). The loud and loud noise surprised the residents of Baturité, Redenção, Pacoti, Mulungu, Redenção, Palmácia and Guaramiranga.
According to an account by astronomer Lauriston Trindade of Bramon, the object was sighted south of Fortaleza, near the Maciço region, where it moved in a northwesterly direction.
“There was a loud explosion around 6:50 am, when several residents of the region heard this explosion. We believe it is a small asteroid that entered the Earth’s atmosphere through the Baturité massif. In Bramon we are collecting more data, we have some images that record the magnitude of this phenomenon. We are trying to collect more reports and videos to try to determine the trajectory, he said.
Weather satellite captures asteroid
The professor and astronomer Romário Fernandes declared for the Green Seas System that a geostationary meteorological satellite recorded the phenomenon.
“There is a satellite that is hundreds of kilometers above the Earth and it is a geostationary meteorological satellite for monitoring the climate. It orbits the Earth regularly for other purposes. And he captured that record. This blue (see photo) is indicative of the luminous phenomenon, the explosion that occurred around 6:50 am in the region ”, he explains.
‘Earthquake’ and ‘thunder’
Some residents of the Massif, such as accounts payable analyst Dyonatham Maciel, were impressed by the volume of the sound heard. “Everyone is scared. Some say it was a plane crash, others think it was a meteor. There were two crashes. It looked like thunder, I thought it was going to rain, described Dyonatham, who lives in Baturité.
In addition to the account analyst’s account, other assumptions emerged in the region. “It was a noise very similar to that of thunder. Dry blow. It lasted between three and four seconds. He shook the doors of the room where he was, ”said radio host Delano Holland, who lives in Pacoti. The seller Gabriel Orlando da Silva thought it was a plane crash. “It looked like a plane crash or something.” There were people who thought it was an earthquake. “I noticed that the house was shaking. A strong vibration,” said merchant Renato Nunes Sampaio.
