The special secretary of Culture, Mário Frias, 49, was admitted today to the Santa Luzia Hospital, in Brasilia, with a heart attack, according to a note released by the Secom (Special Secretariat for Social Communication) of the Presidency of the Republic. At this time, Frías undergoes a catheterization.
There is no information yet on the secretary’s state of health. The hospital where he is admitted belongs to the Rede D’Or São Luiz and is located in Asa Sul.
Catheterization has two functions: First, it is used as a test, usually to diagnose coronary artery disease. Then, if any injury is identified, the procedure takes the stent, a kind of metal spring that keeps the arterial walls open, to the place where there is an obstruction.
In catheterization, an interventional cardiologist makes a small incision in the wrist or groin and inserts a catheter through a blood vessel until it reaches the heart. Everything is done with the help of a kind of X-ray, called fluoroscopy, an imaging technique that helps the catheter rise up to the coronary artery.
Frías had no official appointments scheduled for today. Yesterday five meetings were scheduled, all in the office of the Special Secretary of Culture, according to their agenda.
Successor to Regina Duarte
Mário Frías was appointed Secretary of Culture on June 19, replacing Regina Duarte, who was only two months in office. During this period, the actress was criticized for not working in Brasilia – she chose to work in São Paulo, close to her family – and for not acting with a firm hand in relation to important issues for the Bolsonaristas in the ideological core of the government.
The appointment of Frías was anticipated by Carla Araújo in her column in Twitter. According to the journalist, one of the factors that motivated Regina’s departure was an alleged inertia of the actress in the fight against “leftism.” She was accused of collusion with the presence of advisers and employees within Culture who, in theory, would be aligned with ideologies opposed to those defended by Jair Bolsonaro (without a party).
Cold, however, is a staunch supporter of the president on social media. Even before his name began to air, the actor already showed interest in taking on Culture, as he said in an interview with CNN Brazil.
“Whatever Jair needs, I’m here. For Brazil, I do whatever it takes. I respect Jair too much. I see Brazil as an opportunity to be a dignified, respected, honest country with a strong and consolidated democracy,” he said in chance.
