The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Marco Aurélio Mello underwent arthroscopy in his right knee on the afternoon of Saturday 19, due to a meniscus injury. The minister is already at home in recovery and will continue to ship normally.
The procedure was performed by the orthopedist Marcus Montenegro at the DF Star hospital in Brasilia.
Marco Aurélio is optimistic about the recovery. He jokes that he hopes to soon be able to reinforce the Flamengo team, of which he is a fan, after the 5×0 defeat against the Ecuadorian club Independiente Del Valle for the Copa Libertadores. Or even to “better resist certain attacks against democracy, against the people, against the Republic.”
“Excuse me, don’t even think about it in my head, especially now that I participate from home,” said the minister.
Marco Aurélio last Thursday ordered the suspension of the investigation that investigates whether President Jair Bolsonaro tried to unduly interfere with the Federal Police. The paralysis of the case, a victory for the Planalto Palace, is valid until the full Court decides how Bolsonaro’s testimony should be made to the investigators, personally or in writing.
The decision was made by Marco Aurélio because the rapporteur of the case, Minister Celso de Mello, is out until the 26th of this month. Marco Aurélio is the second oldest minister in the STF, behind only the dean.
