BUENOS AIRES, NOVEMBER 26 (ANSA) – The body of the star Diego Armando Maradona was buried on Thursday night (26) during a restricted ceremony at the Jardín Bella Vista cemetery, in the province of Buenos Aires, after his funeral was marked by several clashes between fans and the Argentine police.
The coffin arrived on the scene after more than an hour of travel and was greeted by a multitude of flags and banners, singing songs from the stadium.
A strong security scheme was implemented at the entrance to the cemetery, where Maradona’s parents, Dalma Salvadora and Diego Maradona’s father are also buried. Even so, there were new moments of tension between the police and the former athlete’s fans. Stones were thrown at the officers, who guarded the entrance doors and responded with rubber bullets.
Initially, the funeral would take place next weekend, but the world idol’s family decided to change the date to today. The wake was supposed to take place until 7 pm, at the Casa Rosada, seat of the Argentine presidency, but it was also closed before the expected period after a riot.
During the trip to the outskirts of Buenos Aires, even in the midst of the new coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 pandemic, a crowd gathered and accompanied the car as it passed through the streets to say goodbye to Maradona.

At the cemetery, friends and family gathered under a tent and around Maradona’s coffin, which carried an Argentine flag. Before the burial a religious ceremony was held, attended by about 40 people, while thousands of fans were outside.
A drone filmed the moment of intimacy without audio, after a day full of tears, confusion, screams and choruses from tens of thousands of people whose lives were marked by the Argentine soccer idol.
Embalmed body – The Argentine website Tyc Sports revealed on Thursday (26) that Maradona left a document for his family in which he expressed his desire to be embalmed.
