In the post-match interview, coach Mano Menezes made no secret of his joy at the team’s good performance. Tricolor lost the first leg 1-0 and had to win at least two goals to advance to the next stage.

– First I want to talk about the happiness of having seen the team play well, not only because of the score, but also because of the quality of the game we offer, especially in the first half. We left Lima with the conviction that we could reverse and that, above all, we could deliver more as a team. Today we are happy to return to Fonte Nova, to find a lawn in excellent condition, which gave us and helped us a lot to offer this quality game. When the team is good and things are working, you can expect a lot from our team. We were playing good games and the results did not appear or appeared sporadically. I hope it will be the resumption of an important sequence for Bahia, not only in the South American, but in the Brazilian Championship.

– It is important to see the result accompanied by a good performance. Sometimes you play well, but the result is due. When it is possible to unite the two, it increases the confidence of the team, players, fans, creates a favorable environment, more optimism. This influences what the team can offer and I hope it becomes more and more complete.

Mano also evaluated the possibility of Daniel and Rodriguinho playing together. In tonight’s game, the former started and provided three assists.

– It is still a bit early to talk about this, because Rodriguinho comes from a long stop. Today it would be more consistent for us to do this, because Rodriguinho is not yet 100%. When the two are on an equal footing, we can make them play together. I see no problem with that. As long as the team does not lose competitiveness. We think they are beautiful, they are quality players, but the game is something much more complex. Often times, you have to fight for the ball; the other team also has quality of play. And then beauty is not enough, because you lose something that is important for the team to become a winner. And we want to be a winner. Play well and be a winner.

With an elastic marker built in the opening stage, Mano acknowledged that the team was preserved in the second half.
