In the post-match interview, coach Mano Menezes made no secret of his joy at the team’s good performance. Tricolor lost the first leg 1-0 and had to win at least two goals to advance to the next stage.

– First I want to talk about the happiness of having seen the team play well, not only because of the score, but also because of the quality of the game we offer, especially in the first half. We left Lima with the conviction that we could reverse and that, above all, we could deliver more as a team. Today we are happy to return to Fonte Nova, to find a lawn in excellent condition, which gave us and helped us a lot to offer this quality game. When the team is good and things are working, you can expect a lot from our team. We were playing good games and the results did not appear or appeared sporadically. I hope it will be the resumption of an important sequence for Bahia, not only in the South American, but in the Brazilian Championship.

– It is important to see the result accompanied by a good performance. Sometimes you play well, but the result is due. When it is possible to unite the two, it increases the confidence of the team, players, fans, creates a favorable environment, more optimism. This influences what the team can offer and I hope it becomes more and more complete.

Mano also evaluated the possibility of Daniel and Rodriguinho playing together. In tonight’s game, the former started and provided three assists.

– It is still a bit early to talk about this, because Rodriguinho comes from a long stop. Today it would be more consistent for us to do this, because Rodriguinho is not yet 100%. When the two are on an equal footing, we can make them play together. I see no problem with that. As long as the team does not lose competitiveness. We think they are beautiful, they are quality players, but the game is something much more complex. Often times, you have to fight for the ball; the other team also has quality of play. And then beauty is not enough, because you lose something that is important for the team to become a winner. And we want to be a winner. Play well and be a winner.

With an elastic marker built in the opening stage, Mano acknowledged that the team was preserved in the second half.

– We now have a shorter deadline to face Botafogo on Sunday. So the recovery is less. Mass the team knew, due to the advantage on the scoreboard, to handle it a little better too. At certain points in the second half, he was naturally preserved, didn’t need to expose himself, and was smart to know how to run the game more smoothly to the end. This prevents wear. When you avoid wear and tear, recovery is better. Even if it is in a short time. It is an important game. I think we were able to deliver a quality game to fight for the victory. One game at a time. You cannot make projections that long in a championship as tough as the Brazilian Championship.

Bahía will face Unión Santa Fe in the next phase of the South American Championship, the days of the matches are not defined. Before, the Tricolor wins, for the Brazilian Championship, Botafogo, in a match scheduled for this Sunday.

Fessin and game model
– The equipment model can be perfectly maintained. We do not attack the characteristics of the players at all. We did what I imagine can be done. The novelty was Fessin, in fact, in the place of one of the avant-garde players. I particularly like to see a team like this, because you start to gain a little more variation. When you only have two sprinters on the edge, you will prepare the play to go to the bottom, to cross the area or finish. When you have players who, on the edge, also have the ability to arm, they go to the field, in the center aisle, the team has more variation. And this variation offers a better game and more difficulty for the opponent to mark you.

Focus and second half
– I don’t see any difficulty concentrating. Today we cover that before the game. You have no problem with motivation, delivery. What the team must have is an understanding of the game. Today the understanding of the game was very good, especially in the first half. You know how you want to generate the positive result. We found a team that gave space between the lines. And, in the game there, we ran too far to try to build the moves. Today we run much less and build better. Understanding the game today is something that makes a big difference. It is in this aspect that I am trying harder so that the team has this in order to offer a quality game and positive results together.
