There are irresistible invitations. And in football, these invitations go beyond money. In command of Corinthians, Flamengo, São Paulo, Palmeiras, for example … In command of the giants. Vagner Mancini did not hesitate to change Atlético-GO for Corinthians, even with the club in the relegation zone, in economic crisis and with a presidential election in sight for the next few months; which reduces your warranty – you signed a contract until the end of 2021.
The main reason for Mancini’s yes, however, goes beyond the mission of, as Corinthians coach, to get the team out of the hole in which it was inserted. Mancini has long said that he no longer wants to be just a soccer coach. He wants to be a supervisor, technical coordinator, manager, the guy who is involved in choosing a technician.
He did it for some time in São Paulo, working with Cuca. He left when the board decided to choose Fernando Diniz without consulting him. He didn’t exactly want to be the replacement. But to participate effectively in that decision.
He made a second attempt, this one even more like the moment he will live in Corinthians. He accepted Atlético-MG’s invitation at the end of the last Brasileirão. Finish the season as a buffer coach and start the next as a “coach.” His face broke again. He did not remain either as a coach or as a coach.
Without invitations to the new role, he agreed to be the Atlético-GO coach with extensive skills. And then Corinthians appeared.
Mancini makes a new move, perhaps even in agreement with Andrés Sánchez. Finish the season with dignity as a field coach and be “promoted” in 2021 by the new president, if the situation manages to convert the successor.
