RIO – A man kidnapped a woman with a knife for almost 4 hours in a cafeteria, in Tijuca, in the North Zone of Rio, this Friday. In an operation that began with the performance of agents from the Security Present program and culminated in a long negotiation attended by police officers from the Special Operations Battalion of the Military Police (BOPE), the victim was released without serious injuries and the aggressor was arrested.

The kidnapper, who was the victim’s boyfriend, has gone through the police and, according to the TV Globo investigation, is in a semi-open regime, but has not been in the prison for two days. In conversation in the cafeteria, the companion allegedly tried to convince him to come forward, which would have angered the attacker, who pulled a knife from the store counter. The action quickly gathered many spectators who passed through the place, with great movement in the neighborhood.

When the victim was finally released and escorted by the police to an ambulance for the emergency room, she was greeted with applause by those who accompanied the negotiation.

“He was very upset, with traces of psychopathy. This, said the psychologist who accompanied us. That is why she began to alternate moments of great stress, putting the victim at risk ”.

After the kidnapping ended, Bope’s commander, Lieutenant Colonel Maurilio Nunes da Conceição, spoke with the press and explained how the dynamics were. According to him, when the kidnapper became more aggressive, the police decided to use a grenade to disarm him.

– It took more than three hours of negotiation and we found that he was very upset, with traces of psychopathy. This, said the psychologist who accompanied us. Due to this, she began to alternate moments of great stress and already putting the victim at risk. For this reason, our negotiation began to be tactical, and an entry protocol was established, with a cover-up, which was a grenade and entry with the dog – he said.

According to the commander, in addition to his girlfriend, the attacker also held three other employees in the cafeteria. He was immobilized with the help of an electroshock pistol.

– The team managed to break in and get him out of the hostage with an electro-shock weapon. From there an extraction was carried out, with medical attention for both the people, both the kidnapper and the victims. In fact, there were four victims, one who was directly in his possession and three more inside the office, which he did not let out. They all came out unharmed and without any collateral damage – he concluded.

According to the Military Police, teams from the Tijuca Presente Program emptied the establishment, and then negotiating agents from the Police Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) arrived at the scene. The other units in the area isolated the street.
