The mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), said today that more than 20% of one of his lungs was contaminated by the coronavirus.
He announced that he was diagnosed with covid-19 on September 16 and returned to the Chamber of Deputies for the first time today since then. Maia called the period of the coronavirus at home “isolation and suffering.”

He stressed the importance of wearing the mask to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, as recommended by experts, and, despite requests that he remove it when speaking at a conference, he said that he will continue to use the object.
“From today until the vaccine, wherever I go, I will wear the mask, trying to show everyone that this is not a known disease,” he said.
The attitude is the opposite of that shown by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro (without a party), who has already minimized the coronavirus several times, comparing its effects with a “little grip”, and does not always wear a protective mask.
In addition to Maia and Bolsonaro, the presidents of the Senate and STF (Supreme Federal Court), Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP) and Luiz Fux, respectively, have already been infected by the coronavirus. After Fux’s face-to-face inauguration in the Supreme Court, at least nine other officials also had covid-19. They all recovered.
