The mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), lost his temper this Friday (9.out.2020) after hearing a question from a prosecutor that he described as rude. After protesting, he dropped the interview he gave live to the website. The antagonist, by video call.
In the program transmitted through YouTube, the journalist Claudio Dantas showed the video of the lawyer Hélio Telho. In the images, the prosecutor asked:
“Why do you think that nepotism, the hiring of relatives, should no longer be punished for administrative rudeness? Why do you think that the tender management, the favoring of certain companies, the mayor’s family business, the mayor’s wife, the campaign financing company, the favoring of that company, the hiring management of that company should no longer be punished as an act of administrative impropriety? “
The prosecutor’s question, which was extended beyond the transcribed fragment, is due to changes in the Administrative Improbity Law discussed in the Chamber. Rodrigo Maia has already ruled on article 11 of the current law, which will probably be softened in the discussion of the proposal.
After listening to the prosecutor’s video, Maia replied:
“I did not understand, Cláudio [Dantas, apresentador]. I did not understand. Did he say what I think? Who is he to say that I think something? He did not listen to my opinion on the issues he raised ”, Rodrigo Maia said.
“You can’t find anything because I haven’t said anything. I didn’t say anything, I just said that article 11 is a very open article and generates a lot of insecurity. His belief about these problems that he raised is his lack of respect for the mayor “said the deputy. “Rudeness I do not respond”Maia said.
“I want to know about him, why he receives statements and I did not ask why the House has not yet voted on statements. Let’s be correct here, there are some lawyers who are playful. “said the mayor.
“Extrateto” is the name of a practice of the Brazilian State, of paying some sectors of the elite of public officials, such as at least part of the prosecutors, more than the constitutional salary ceiling in the public sector (R $ 39,293). This is done through additional payments known as “penduricalhos”. The House is considering a bill to ban the practice.
“If you think you are more serious than others, it is your problem, but you are not more serious than others. Nobody here owns the truth, nobody here owns the defense [contra a] corruption alone “Maia said.
“There are many prosecutors who do the wrong thing and who are protected by others. Ask him about the extract. He asks me if he wants me to rule on the extract, like many prosecutors who pressure me not to vote. You have to be more serious in this debate “said the deputy.
Then he said goodbye and hung up the phone through which he participated in the interview by video call. “Wait a minute, President. huh did he come out? He hung up, ”said the presenter.
