The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), blamed what he described as “denialist leaderships” for the problems related to the covid-19 pandemic in Brazil. Today’s statement comes in the midst of a crisis caused by the lack of oxygen in the state of Amazonas.

In his Twitter profile, the deputy stated: “The lack of oxygen in Manaus, the delay in the vaccine, the lack of coordination with states and municipalities are the result of the denialist agenda promoted by many leaders.”

Maia also advocated for Congress to resume its activities next week. The House and Senate parliamentary recess began on December 23 and is expected to end on February 1, when the election for the Board of Directors of the Chambers will take place. The early return has been defended by some parliamentarians due to the pandemic situation of the new coronavirus.

The deputy also appealed: “It is time for all forces to come together to save lives.”
