Palmeiras coach Vanderlei Luxemburg preferred not to publicly denounce Weverton for the mistake made in the 49th minute of the second half in the goal that guaranteed Bahia a 1-1 draw this Saturday in Salvador.
When analyzing the team’s performance, the coach said that the goalkeeper was right when leaving the goal, after a free kick, to hit the ball in the middle of the area. Marco Antônio took the surplus and finished for the empty bow.
– I think Weverton got it right, hit the ball. And one of his boys had the ball left over. Soccer. The team has to be upside down, we are going to have an important game at home now against Inter, and we are going to prepare for that game – he said, referring to Wednesday’s game.

The tie came four minutes after Zé Rafael made a beautiful individual move and squandered a great face-to-face opportunity with the Bahian goalkeeper. In fact, it was the midfielder who opened the scoring in the 31st minute of the second half, after replacing Lucas Lima.
If he avoided pointing out Weverton’s failure, Luxembourg made a collective criticism of the team that, in his opinion, should have held the ball longer to hold the result.
– After the goal, we needed to hold the ball a little longer in front. We had the opportunity to score the second goal, but we had to be more rascals, rascals in quotes – he analyzed.
– We, in the second half, were closer to the second goal than they were in the tie, but I think we could have held the ball more ahead so that the team came from behind. We hit unnecessary balls, but now we have to lift our heads and carry on.

– Luiz Adriano’s option … He is the player who played the most, along with Marcos Rocha. An injury like Marcos Rocha’s, lasting three weeks, the player loses you for many games. We have to be very concerned about that.
– The changes were good, observing the Bahian team well in the game. The goal came. (…) These five substitutions are good because you can achieve physical balance within the game. The player has to pass the information on how he is in the game. We have used it a lot, it has worked.
– Carefully (we are launching the youth). Wesley had a game that didn’t go well. Today he went another way, looking for what he has, which is dribbling speed. We believe in these children, put them to play. It is the proposal of Palmeiras, to bet on children, and we will do it.
– Good expectations, difficult game, Inter plays with a very strong brand. Play reactively, with a very strong offensive transition. We have to be careful, but our team will be ready to put on a great game.
