A new batch of supplies for the production of CoronaVac, a vaccine against covid-19, arrived this morning in São Paulo. The plane landed at Guarulhos International Airport around 6:15 am.

The batch contains 8,200 liters of IFA (active pharmaceutical ingredient), produced in China by the biopharmaceutical company Sinovac, a partner of the Butantan Institute in the development of the vaccine against covid-19. The raw material will allow the production of 14 million doses of the immunizer.

The governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), the president of Butantan, Dimas Covas, and the secretary of state health, Jean Gorinchteyn, were at the terminal to accompany the arrival of the material.

According to the toucan, these new doses will be distributed to the Ministry of Health as of March 25.

Only in March, according to Doria, Butantan should deliver 21 million doses of CoronaVac to the PNI (national immunization plan) against covid-19 of the Ministry of Health. By the end of April, the federal government will have received 46 million doses of the immunizer; another 56 million will be delivered at the end of August, totaling 100 million.

Covas said yesterday that the agency agreed to sell an additional batch of 30 million doses of CoronaVac to the Ministry of Health and also ordered the Chinese company an additional 20 million doses to be used in the state of São Paulo alone.

Butantan began working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to streamline the production and packaging of vaccines, according to the governor.
