After breaking the record for daily increase in deaths and cases of new coronavirus This week, Brazil yesterday confirmed 610 new deaths and 9,888 cases of the disease. With this, the country has 9,146 deaths and 135,106 infected with covid-19. The daily increase in the number of new coronaviruses follows the growth escalation since Tuesday, when 600 overnight deaths were recorded for the first time. Given the scenario, the blockade begins to spread throughout the country, reaching 18 cities in five states. The first southeastern state to enact the strictest isolation regime, Rio de Janeiro yesterday announced the move in Niteri and Bangu.

Most states that have already enacted a blockade are on the list of 12 federal units that exceed 100 deaths from the disease. In the group are So Paulo (3,206), Rio de Janeiro (1,394), Cear (903), Pernambuco (845), Amazonas (806), Par (410), Maranho (305), Bahía (165), Esprito Santo (155), Minas Gerais (106), Paran (104) and Paraba (101). Together, these states represent 8,500 deaths, that is, 92% of deaths in Brazil.

The decision in Rio was made after the Fluminense government considered the technical-scientific report of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). Health Minister Nelson Teich is visiting Rio today to “see what is being done” and to meet with Governor Wilson Witzel, Mayor Marcelo Crivella and the secretaries of state and capitals. In Fiocruz’s analysis, which supports the action presented by the Rio de Janeiro Public Ministry (MPRJ), the researchers warn that the adoption of stricter measures is urgent and necessary so that there is no collapse in hospitals in May. .

The Rio de Janeiro government is preparing a response to the MPRJ and has until today to send. However, Witzel said the decision would be supported by the state, sending security support in case municipalities decide to adhere to the measures. The operations of the Military and Civil Police have already been made available to the municipalities of Río, Niteri, Belford Roxo, Nova Iguau and Duque de Caxias.

In the capital, the Campo Grande, Bangu and Santa Cruz neighborhoods have movement restrictions, in what Crivella calls partial closure. Niteri Mayor Rodrigo Neves, supporting Fiocruz’s analysis, met with representatives of the Legislative Ministry and the Public Ministry to elaborate the reinforcement of the measures. At night, the Niteri City Council approved the city council’s message, prohibiting the movement of people in the streets, squares and beaches (public places) between May 11 and 15, with the possibility of an extension. Otherwise, a fine of R $ 180 will be applied, which can be doubled in case of recidivism.

Also today, Rio de Janeiro receives a visit from Teich, who confirmed the creation of a travel routine to the most affected places. “We are going to do one or two (capitals) a week,” he said. Despite not being present at the ministerial press conference to comment on actions against the new coronavirus, yesterday, the minister again spoke about social isolation and the total blockade in the cities during a videoconference with federal deputies. “The problem is that it is not possible to work on this discussion as if the closure were the essence of everything. (…) This is a technical discussion. This will vary according to the different regions of the country, with the different times in time of each region. it is essential that we do not treat it as all or nothing, as an extreme. “

Rodzio

Despite not adhering to the total blockade, the municipality of So Paulo, the epicenter of the disease in Brazil, does not rule out the possibility. In the capital, Mayor Bruno Covas decided to expand the range of vehicles in an attempt to reduce the growing curve of cases of the new coronavirus. The measure, which begins to be implemented starting next Monday, will be valid for the entire city, including weekends, increasing the movement restriction from 20 to 50%.

According to the mayor, the previous blockade by the main avenues did not have the necessary effect, so he decided to return with Rodzio. He cited that this week, while hospital beds reached 90% occupancy, the city registered traffic jams of 40 kilometers.

Before other states began proposing confinement, the only one that was subject to tightening distance measures was Maranho. However, on the third day under the decree, the movement in So Lus was intense yesterday, with the right to agglomerations in more peripheral neighborhoods. In the state, only the island of So Lus adhered to the isolation system.

The closure measures began to take effect this Thursday in Belm and in nine other municipalities in Par. The restriction must extend for ten days. In Cear, the blockade begins today in Fortaleza, and tomorrow it will be the turn of Bahia to test the first measures of confinement in Salvador. Despite having one of the highest national incidences of cases and deaths per million inhabitants, Amazonas did not adopt the blocking measures.
