For the ninth round of Premier league, OR Liverpool passed over the Leicester city, won 3-0 and is now tied for the lead with Tottenham. The goals of this historic victory were scored by Evans, against Diogo Jota and Firmino.
A tour of the current champions. Dominant during the 90 minutes, the Reds did not notice the visitors and tied Tottenham, first place, with 20 points, only behind goal difference. Before the round began, Leicester was in the lead, but fell to fourth place with the loss.
Diogo Jota, a big name in Liverpool’s season so far, has scored his fourth goal in 4 Premier League games at Anfield. The Portuguese reinforcement became the first player in the club’s history to do so.
But that game will be remembered forever as when Jurgen Klopp’s team broke the record for unbeaten home games in club history in the Premier League.
In 1981, after Liverpool lost at Anfield for 63 consecutive games, Leicester ended the streak. Now, against the same team, the Reds reach the mark of 64 undefeated games played at their stadium. The last time a visitor left there with all three points was Crystal Palace, in April 2017.
Overwhelming first time
Sovereign at home for years, Liverpool set the pace of the game from the first to the last minute. Always strong at crosses, the scoreboard opened in a corner to the right. Trying to score Mané, Jonny Evans headed the other way and shook the nets.
Just before the break, the second came. Diogo Jota, one of the big names of the season, took advantage of Robertson’s nice left shot and deflected the center with a header without a chance for Schmeichel.
Another embezzlement?
Filled with trouble choosing his gear, Klopp may have even more headaches. Naby Keita felt pain in his right leg and left the pitch early in the second half.
For the game against Leicester, the team was left without Salah, who tested positive for COVID-19, and also did not have the injured Henderson, Joe Gomez, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Thiago and Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Hammering until the third comes out
With their foot on the clutch, Liverpool continued to command the actions, but without so much intensity.
Still, he almost missed the third at the start of the second half. At 9, Mané received in the penalty area and struck, but Schmeichel separated and Fuchs cleared. Minutes later, Jota center, the Leicester goalkeeper shared with Firmino and the ball went up. Evans tried to clear and was about to score another goal, but this time he hit the post.
At 16, Leicester’s great opportunity. Maddison got into the area looking for Vardy, but Alisson grew up and won the game, preventing the goal.
Liverpool had another great opportunity before the network shook. Jota made a nice pass to Firmino, who dribbled over to Fofana and got into the goalkeeper’s face, but caught too much and hit the post. On the rebound, the ball hit the Brazilian and went almost completely, but not 100%, being pushed and going to the post again.
Finally, the last one came, and it had to be his. Firmino climbed higher than all in the right center and headed with force and precision in the corner, closing the score.
