In Brazil, being Davi is not enough.
Facing Goliath, here, is having to handle the sling with your hand tied and your mouth closed.
Judge Leonardo Grandmasson Ferreira Chaves, of the 32nd Civil Court of Rio de Janeiro, prohibited Luís Nassif’s Jornal GGN from publishing – or keeping “on the air” what he has already published – about the BTG Pactual Bank, founded by Paulo Guedes and headed by André Esteves, a name mentioned in several scandals in the Republic.
Note that it is not to stop making this or that specific accusation against the bank, but anything that the bank considers offensive and capable – congratulations, Nassif, for having admitted it – could shake the image of the bank.
Censorship returned with force in Brazil, to the benefit of big capital.
Nassif, of course, will reverse this absurd decision in the second instance.
But what the Brazilian judiciary is becoming is terrifying.
“Shut up” did not die, and lives in the Brazilian courts.
