“In this hour of great apprehension, I want to reassure everyone and reiterate that I will conduct the current episode with serenity and awareness of my responsibilities with the Institution and Democracy,” wrote the parliamentarian. “For this, I will be guided by the only legitimate compass of the democratic regime, the Constitution. And by the only civilized means of exercising Democracy, dialogue and respect for the majority opinion of the institution I represent ”.
Silveira was arrested in flagrante delicto by the Federal Police on the night of Tuesday 16, after broadcasting a video with hate speech against members of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who issued the arrest warrant, contacted Lira by phone shortly after signing the decision.
