Video recorded by a surveillance camera on the beach of Itapema, on the north coast of Santa Catarina, shows the exact moment when lightning strikes and kills the 47-year-old real estate agent Fabrício Corrêa Gasparetto (Look the following video).

Fabrício was running with a friend on the beach, last Friday (2/10), when he was hit, near the Meia Praia neighborhood. The real estate agent had a cardiopulmonary arrest and was transferred to the Santo Antônio Municipal Hospital, but could not resist.

Born in Chapecó, Gasparetto was passionate about running and used to play sports on the seafront several times a week. The death caused a great commotion in the city. On social media, friends mourned the loss.

The body of the victim was veiled and cremated last Saturday (10/3). Leave a wife and three children.

Friend is fine

According to the Fire Department, the man who was accompanying him was disoriented after the impact, but he was rescued and is fine. It is not possible to say precisely whether the friend accompanying Gasparetto was hit directly or indirectly.

How to protect yourself from lightning

  • Get into a non-convertible vehicle and close the doors and windows, avoiding contact with the bodywork;
  • Entering houses, shops or buildings, moving away from electrical, telephone and hydraulic networks, metal doors and windows;
  • Enter underground shelters, such as subways or tunnels;
  • If there is no safe place, stay away from any higher points such as trees and metal objects, keep your feet together, and crouch until the storm passes. Do not lie down.
