Trying to stay relevant outside the entry segment, LG will sideline its G and V lines to present a new model, Velvet, at the top of its smartphone catalog. The South Korean company’s bid to convert the game now has a set date for its release: May 7. Additionally, the model had some of its information leaked before the official announcement.
Velvet marks not only a change in the nomenclature adopted by LG, but also a new direction for the appearance of the company’s smartphones. The images released so far from the device indicate a more sophisticated appearance, different from the somewhat repetitive style in which the G line was attached.
LG Velvet launch time is scheduled for 10am local time in South Korea, 10pm on May 6, Brasilia time.
Despite the premium positioning, the Velvet will not be equipped with a high-end processor. Instead of the modern Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, the new LG will use the Snapdragon 765, which is less advanced but still has a built-in 5G modem.
One of the features that caught the most attention in the teasers launched by LG is the organization of the sensors of the main camera, with an arrangement from largest to smallest, apparently inspired by a drop of water. Another pre-launch reveal is the inclusion of a headphone jack, next to the charger cable plug.
Leaked Specifications
In addition to the two mentioned features and the look of the device, LG did not elaborate on the Velvet, but some specs were posted on South Korean websites. They list the alleged measurement, memory, color and camera data of the new smartphone.
According to the local press, Velvet will be sold in four color options, which are characterized by changing slightly depending on the incidence of light on the case: white, gray, green and orange / yellow.
Furthermore, the model’s dimensions offer a probable 21: 9 screen ratio at 6.7 inches and weighing 180 grams. The battery would have a respectable 4,300 mAH figure, information revealed in two different leaks.
