Leo Índio has held the position since April 2019. Son of Rosemeire Nantes Braga Rodrigues, sister of Rogéria Nantes, mother of Bolsonaro’s three in-laws, Índio was appointed with a gross salary of R $ 14,802.41. He was an advisor to Flávio Bolsonaro and is very close to Councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (PSC-RJ). Upon being appointed to the position of Chico Rodrigues, Léo Índio stated:

– A few weeks ago I received an invitation from Senator Chico Rodrigues, whom I have admired for a long time, to compose his work team. Our coexistence has narrowed since the beginning of Jair Bolsonaro’s campaign for the Presidency, when the senator was able to see some of my characteristics and the convergence of our ideas. I have always believed in meritocracy and the value of work, the true guarantor of individual freedoms. Good politics, however, have been inseparable from me since childhood.

Elected to the Senate in 2018, Chico Rodrigues was appointed as one of the deputy leaders of the Bolsonaro government in the Chamber. The Federal Police launched an operation last Wednesday to investigate deviations in the application of resources to combat the coronavirus that involves parliamentarians. Investigators who searched and captured the senator’s residence in Roraima found around R $ 30,000 in the place. Part of the money bills would be between the buttocks. The PF recorded in photos and videos the moment of this apprehension.

Indio was known in the political world for his closeness to Carlos Bolsonaro, accused of being the head of the hate cabinet. The aide is often seen in the corridors of the Planalto Palace, even without having an official position. In audios revealed by GLOBO in October 2019, Fabrício Queiroz taught how to get a public position in Congress, as is the case of an indigenous ally of the Bolsonaro clan.

– He’s got more than 500 seats, man, in the House and in the Senate. You can indicate it to any commission or, something, without linking it to them (the Bolsonaro family) at all, 20 there so that we can get along with shit – said Queiroz.

In a note sent to the press at the time he was appointed to the position, Índio also noted that he has professional characteristics inherited from his family, such as “an appreciation for honesty and love for his country” and reinforced the importance of the senator. Chico Rodrigues for the Bolsonaro government.

– Senator Chico Rodrigues, like me, is part of this crowd that trusts in the project of our president and, starting today, together, we will spare no effort to honor the mission of serving the country, especially the State of Roraima. I thank the senator for the trust placed in me, a feeling that I want to be worthy of awakening in all those who support my family – he said.

The flagrant with money in underwear is not the first irregularity starring Chico Rodrigues. In 2006, when he was in his fourth term as a federal deputy, he was investigated by the House internal affairs department for his high expenses with gasoline and, at that time, he admitted that he presented other expenses as if they were fuel to receive reimbursement , but he was acquitted.

The case was revealed by GLOBO with a survey that showed that, in the previous year, Chico Rodrigues had spent R $ 174.1 thousand (in values at that time) on gasoline, the fourth largest expense among the deputies. In the first three months of 2006, it spent more: R $ 60 thousand.

– It is not good, but it is the way I have to justify the expense. This amount must be incorporated into salary, released for any expenses, or suspended. Otherwise, the deputy is obliged to carry a counter at his side. The deputy is obliged to do a real alchemy, gymnastics to get compensation. It is the fault of the Chamber … – he admitted at the time, in an interview.

The road to Brasilia

Before being named a parliamentary adviser to the Senate, Índio built his career in commerce and retail and served for seven years in the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj). At that time, his most recent professional experiences were in the beverage industry. He even took a basic bartending course and the last job he posted on his LinkedIn profile was in the commercial area of the specialty coffee brand Moccato, where he joined in 2016. Before that, he was sales manager for the bartending company. of Cachaça Quero. Rain, between 2013 and 2016.

In Brasilia, he was also a salesman and manager in stores of well-known clothing brands, such as Ellus Jeans Deluxe, TNG and Wollner. Last year, a graduate in Business Administration from the Cândido Mendes University, Leo Índio also ventured into his own business in 2013. Oca do Índio, a hostel located in the center of Rio, was inaugurated.

In a CV shared on his LinkedIn profile, the parliamentary advisor describes himself as communicative, versatile, creative, persuasive and objective. In another, published on the same social network, he reported that he had a salary of R $ 2,000 in a previous job, much less than the R $ 14,000 he paid for the position for which he was appointed in the Senate.

Despite his background in retail, coming into contact with Congress was not his first experience as a parliamentary adviser. In Alerj he held the same position between 2006 and 2012, when his cousin, now Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PSL-RJ), was a state deputy in the house. As a reference to a former head of the period in which he worked in Alerj, he indicated in the study plan the name of Miguel Angelo Braga Grillo, who was Flávio’s chief of staff in the Senate and held the same position in Alerj.

According to the Rio de Janeiro assembly, Léo Índio held the position of CCDAL-5 commissioner until April 2007, whose salary at that time corresponded to R $ 4,011 gross. He was later promoted to CCDAL-1, a position he held until he left the house. The remuneration has been corrected over the years.
