LeBron and Davis break 18-year fast and join Kobe and Shaq in Lakers history: “Unbelievable” | nba

LeBron James and Anthony Davis accomplished a great feat in their victory over the Miami Heat on Friday night. Together, the two scored 65 points in Game 2 of the NBA Finals: LeBron, 33; and Davis, 32. Thus, they broke an 18-year taboo since 2002: they were the first couple in the franchise to score more than 60 points in a final game. The last to get it? Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. It was the trigger for the comparisons to begin.

Between 2000 and 2002, after three titles with the Lakers, Kobe and Shaq accomplished the feat five times. Kobe also established a new successful partnership with Pau Gasol, with two titles in 2009 and 2010, but was unable to repeat the feat. LeBron, however, avoided comparisons.

– I can’t even believe we’re here talking about me and AD with Kobe and Shaq. This is just incredible – said the star after the game.

Davis was less shy. The player became the third to overcome the 30-point barrier in the first finals of his career; the other two to do so were Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant. After the game, he played with the comparisons.

-He (LeBron James) is Kobe, because he controls the ball. And I’m Shaq, because I play in the bottle.

Davis also spoke of the relationship between Kobe and Shaq, who were surprised at times on the court before raising the association’s numbers.

– I know they sat down and talked about their problems, because they both wanted to be dominant, they wanted to be great and they wanted to win. It was then that they got together, despite everything that was said about them. They were both aloof, competitive in spirit and did their best to win. I think LeBron and I are the same, we are two guys who want to win, whatever the circumstances. We want to make sure we do whatever it takes to help the team win. We have two such players. It will not always be easy, we will have differences, but it is all for good reasons.

– When the team has two players who want to win all the time and dominate, there are games like today, with two players to score, rebound, go to teammates. We have something special here and we want to capitalize on that, Davis said.
