Learn about the stories of ‘betrayal’ in the Rio City Council elections

RIO – In the dictionary, the word “betray” is accompanied by the entry “abandon belief, conviction” and “not live up to expectations, frustrate”. The verb is applied to the position of politicians from the most diverse spectrum, from left to right, who will not follow the indication of their respective parties in the municipal elections this year.

Some “betrayals” even have the consent of the party’s National Executive, as in the case of the PP, in Rio. Others, as in the PSL, surprised the national leaders and continue to be one of the consequences of the rupture of the legend. with President Jair Bolsonaro. who left the party at the end of last year.

In Rio, Pode officially joins the coalition of Mayor Marcelo Crivella (Republicans) and commands a municipal management secretariat, occupied by the legendary municipal president, Marco San.

But two of the main names of the party in the state, Senator Romário and state deputy Bebeto, declared their support for former mayor Eduardo Paes (DEM), who leads the voting intentions, according to Ibope and Datafolha polls.

In this break, Romário assures that he gave a coup to Marco San, his former chief of Cabinet, who would have used his electronic password to remove him from the municipal directory and call himself president. San, in turn, says that “it would not be ethical” o We can support Paes while we command a secretariat in the management of Crivella.

Both Romario and Marco San claim to have the support of the party’s national president, federal deputy Renata Abreu, who, sought, preferred not to speak.

In the PP, federal deputies such as Christino Áureo and Dr. Luizinho will also follow Romário’s movement. Even with the party headed by two secretaries in the Crivella administration, MPs will campaign for Paes, to whom they are closest.

This “betrayal” was combined with party leaders, such as Senator Ciro Nogueira (PI), national president of the acronym, and Francisco Dornelles, state president of the legend, both have an excellent relationship with Paes.

Known for his slogan “Glória a Deus” in the 2018 presidential campaign, Cabo Daciolo, in turn, contradicted the instructions of his party, PL, to support Paes. Even with the initials that indicate Nilton Caldeira for the position of vice president of the former mayor, Daciolo decided to support Glória Heloíza, candidate for mayor of the PSC.

– There was an agreement in the party that I would run for mayor and then for president. But my growth in research worried Paes, who began to harass the PL. The party ended up choosing to support him and that is why I am going to leave the PL. Many people know me as “Glória a Deus” and now I’m going to support the candidate Glória. Look what a coincidence ”, said Daciolo.

If, on the one hand, Glória Heloíza received the support of a politician outside the party, on the other hand she will not have the support of one of the main names of her party, the federal deputy Otoni de Paula, the only representative of the PSC in the Chamber with electoral domicile in the river.

Once a fierce critic of Crivella, whom he called in February “a terrible administrator,” Otoni says he will campaign for the mayor “under the leadership of Bolsonaro.” According to the parliamentarian, Paes belongs to a political group antagonistic to Bolsonaro’s.

Bolsonarista dispute

In the PSL, state deputy Anderson Moraes has not campaigned for the party’s mayoral candidate, federal deputy Luiz Lima. More than that: Moraes has attacked the fans and supported Crivella, who, like Lima, disputes the share of the Bolsonarista electorate.

When participating in a live broadcast with the mayor last week, Moraes said that Lima “is not the candidate of Bolsonarismo” and challenged him to say that he has the support of the president.

Lima, in turn, countered his party colleague in a post, stating that Moraes even came to him to ask for his support in the 2018 elections.

As a counterattack, the mayoral candidate recalled that Moraes, who is now a member of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (Republicans), came to contest the 2016 elections of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB). Linked to the evangelical caucus, PSD councilor Eliseu Kessler also ignored the support of his caption for Luiz Lima and declared support for Crivella.

A similar movement, rejected by the party’s own candidate, is carried out in São Paulo by federal deputies Carla Zambelli and Bia Kicis, who, despite being affiliated with the PSL, do not support Joice Hasselmann’s candidacy for mayor. The candidate, who was once close to Bolsonaro, is today one of the main voices of opposition to the president within the party.

“For this break with Bolsonaro, my support is precisely so that Joice Hasselmann is not elected,” said Carla Zambelli.

In São José de Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo, Zambelli’s support for the candidate Dr. Paulo Bassan (PRTB) makes Senator Mayor Olimpio (PSL-SP), from the Bolsonaro opposition wing in the party, publicly defend the impeachment. of the mandate of the deputy, which would begin with a process in the PSL Ethics Council. Olimpio supports the party’s candidate, Marco Casale, who has the PSDB in his coalition, seen by Bolsonaro as a party that could try to remove him from power in 2022.

Federal deputy Carlos Jordy (PSL), nicknamed in Niterói as “Bolsonaro’s cub” because of his affinity with the clan, stressed that most of the mayoral candidates he supports are not from the PSL.

– I would say that 99% of the names of mayors that I support come from other parties. And, in relation to this 1% that is from the PSL, I am even ashamed to declare support for everything that happened with the caption and the president – Jordy said. In Niterói, a city in the Rio Metropolitan Region, where he has an electoral stronghold, Jordy supports Allan Lyra, from PTC, while the PSL launches the candidacy of Deuler da Rocha.

A similar movement occurs in Fortaleza. The PSL launched the candidacy of Heitor Freire, but the Bolsonarista federal deputies expressed their support for Captain Wagner (PROS).

Wanted, the national president of the PSL, Luciano Bivar, was more cautious than Senator Mayor Olimpio and avoided talking about punishment for party members who support mayoral candidates of other legends.

– I don’t know these movements. These unusual situations will be analyzed very carefully later – said Bivar, succinctly.

The former minister of Lula (Foreign Relations) and Dilma Rousseff and member of the PT, Celso Amorim, expressed her support in São Paulo for Guilherme Boulos, PSOL candidate, against her own party, who launched Jilmar Tatto for the elections. Former senator Lindberg Farias (PT) also affirmed, in an interview with the portal Brasil 247, that the PT should renounce the candidacy of Tatto in São Paulo to support Boulos in exchange for the PSOL abandoning the candidacy of Renata Souza. to support PT Benedita da Silva. In both cases, the criterion presented would be viability: Boulos and Benedita appear ahead of Tatto and Renata Souza in the polls.

In Recife, after an intervention by the national executive, the PT ended up deciding to launch its own candidacy, with the head of the plate Marília Arraes. To do this, he had to intervene in the municipal directory, which preferred to walk with João Campos, from PSB. Dissatisfied with the intervention, the municipal secretary of sanitation, Oscar Barreto, affiliated with the PT, organizes a dissent in the party to support the candidacy of João Campos.

Wanted, the PT stated, through its press office, that it “will not comment on individual affiliations of affiliates.”
