Forward Marinho, from Santos, was chosen as the best player on the continent in the traditional election of the newspaper “El País”, in Uruguay, with the participation of journalists from South America.
The Peixe player has the company of athletes from Palmeiras, current Libertadores champion, and River Plate, which stopped in the semifinal, in the selection of the best on the continent.
The newspaper “El País” announced on Wednesday two selections: one with the votes of 400 journalists and the other gathered only by fans.
The selection of South American journalists has: Weverton (Palmeiras); Montiel (River Plate), Lucas Veríssimo (Santos), Gómez (Palmeiras) and Viña (Palmeiras); Pérez (River Plate), Fernández (River Plate), Marinho (Santos) and Soteldo (Santos); Ron (Palmeiras) and Borré (River Plate).

The fans changed a few pieces and chose: Armani (River Plate), Montiel (River Plate), Lucas Veríssimo (Santos), Gómez (Palmeiras) and Viña (Palmeiras); Pérez (River Plate), Fernández (River Plate), Marinho (Santos) and Soteldo (Santos); Luiz Adriano (Palmeiras) and Borré (River Plate).

The best coach, in public voting, was Marcelo Gallardo, from River Plate.
Marinho was elected King of America by journalists in large part thanks to his performance in the last edition of Libertadores, in which he played ten games and scored four goals. The forward was a decisive piece for Santos to reach the final against Palmeiras.
