The Electoral Court of the Federal District determined the breach of the confidentiality of the data of the emails of the three Brazilians who are being investigated for an alleged hackers attack on the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). A Portuguese hacker is also suspected of participating in the attack.
TV Globo found that the violation of the confidentiality of the data responds to a request from the Federal Police (PF) and runs from January to December. From this material, the researchers want to establish the relationship between Brazilians and Portuguese.
On Saturday (28), an operation by the PF and the Portuguese police arrested a hacker in Portugal, a 19-year-old Portuguese citizen, who had been under house arrest in the country for six months for other cyber crimes.
The connection between the Portuguese and the Brazilians was established by posting on the Internet and exchanging messages of thanks that cited a group of Brazilian hackers.
The Portuguese would have sent a TSE link to the Brazilians in a chat. After analyzing the data, the Brazilians would have identified an area to attack. The agents identified seven connections on November 15, when the first round of the elections took place, and ten on the 19th. For the researchers, this shows that the alleged attacks were not carried out by a single person, but by a group of hackers. .
The PF and the TSE assess that the attempted attacks in the first round were responsible for the instability in the e-Title services, an application used to justify the absence in the voting and that presented problems in the voting on the 15th.
Hacker who attacked the TSE system arrested in Portugal
The Federal Police carried out three search and seizure orders in São Paulo and Minas Gerais and three precautionary measures that prohibit contact between those investigated.
The crimes found in the police investigation are those related to the invasion of a computer device and a criminal association, both provided for in the penal code; in addition to those provided for in the electoral code and the electoral law.
On the 15th, the first round of the municipal elections, a hacker attack exposed administrative information from the Superior Electoral Court. An analysis by the TSE and the Federal Police on the attack by hackers shows that, in addition to the old server data published on Election Day, the attackers also accessed this year’s information from the Server Portal. The portal has information such as address and phone number, and has no link to the electoral system.
Federal Police said investigations found no evidence that the scrutiny, security and integrity of the voting results in the first round of municipal elections have been hampered. And that it will continue to investigate, with the help of the Portuguese police, if other people participated in the attacks.
