The Federal Court today authorized the Refit refinery (formerly Manguinhos), owned by businessman Ricardo Magro, and companies in his group to import 6,600 doses of vaccines against covid-19 for the immunization of employees and their families.
In the decision, Judge Ronaldo Valcir Spanholo, from the 21st Federal Court of the Federal District, authorized the purchase of the immunizers and released the company from the obligation to donate part of the stock to the SUS (Sistema Único de Saúde).
Some entities had already entered the courts and now, with this decision, it is the first time that a company the size of Refit, a provider of essential services, listed in B3, with great relevance in Rio and national projection, has placed the role. of the companies on vaccination as an active part of this discussion, and not only to complain, but to collaborate with the federal government in this Herculean mission ”, celebrated the company’s lawyer, Ricardo Magro.
Spanholo had already authorized five unions last week to import and apply vaccines against covid-19 among their members, and dispensing with the requirement to donate doses to SUS.
The decision was justified based on the slowness of the federal government’s vaccination campaign and paved the way for the purchase and application of vaccines by the private sector.
The magistrate responded to the requests of the Union of Workers of Cooperative Societies of the State of Minas Gerais (Sintracoop), Federation of Passenger Transport Companies of the State of Minas Gerais (Fetram), Union of Employees of Bank Establishments of Ribeirão Preto and Region, an Administrator of the Oregon Shopping Center and the Federal District Medical Union (Sindmédico / DF).
According to Judge Spanholo, the entry of private initiative in the vaccination campaign is a “complement” to the federal government that can help reduce the levels of contagion and hospitalization of the covid. “We can no longer waste any possibility of saving lives and the pillars of the economy (employment, companies, tax collection, etc.)”, he pointed out.
