Junior’s demonstration on Black Awareness Day did not resonate well with his followers. The former player and commentator reproduced a speech attributed to actor Morgan Freeman, where he affirms that one should not worry about ‘black conscience’, but about ‘human conscience’.
“The day we stop worrying about the Black, Yellow or White Consciousness and we worry about the Human Consciousness, racism disappears,” the text says.
“It would be great if it were that easy, Master. That line from Morgan Freeman is so wrong, you can’t soften something as abominable as racism just by not talking about it,” replied a follower. “It was bad, idol,” said another.
Origin of the phrase
The statement, which since 2014 has been shared by several Brazilian personalities, but according to the E-farces website, which investigates rumors on the internet, was taken out of context. In 2006, Freeman interviewed a CBS television program and stated that the goal was to end racial awareness and stop putting color labels on people.
In 2020, however, the actor changed his position and joined the Black Lives Matter movement.
