Joy and applause for the arrival of vaccines to Niterói

The arrival of the first shipment of the CoronaVac vaccine at the Distribution Center of the State Health Secretariat, in Barreto, Niterói, caused euphoria in the local population.

With applause, ‘the train of hope’ passed and made the people of Niteroi happy from the top of the buildings, on Monday night (18). Federal Police cars accompanied the arrival of the doses. State helicopters also provided cover.

Five cities will receive the highest number of vaccines in this first phase: Rio de Janeiro (capital), with 231,840 doses; São Gonçalo, 27,590; Niterói, with 23,240; Nova Iguaçu, 14,930; and São João de Meriti, 14,870.

The state of Rio de Janeiro began, on Monday (18), the vaccination campaign against Covid-19. A ceremony in Christ the Redeemer marked the beginning of the immunization of the population of Rio de Janeiro.

Twenty boxes arrived this afternoon, each containing 1,200 doses of CoronaVac vaccine. According to the acting governor Cláudio Castro, the rest of what was promised by the Ministry of Health should arrive in Rio for this first phase of immunization at dawn on Tuesday (19).

“It is very unique to begin the vaccination in Christ the Redeemer, who represents peace, love and life. Earlier today I went to São Paulo and met with the Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, and 15 other governors to reiterate that the immunization plan is national. Each Brazilian is imported equally to the other, ”said Cláudio Castro.

Two women: Terezinha Conceição, 80 years old and resident of the Cristo Redentor Coat; and Dulcinea da Silva Lopes, 59, a health professional working on the front lines to combat the pandemic, were chosen to take the first dose of CoronaVac.

“This is the first stage, still small, but in the end, Brazil will be among the five countries that vaccinated the most in the world. This is the beginning of the radical change in Rio de Janeiro ”, added the acting governor.

Distribution to municipalities

In the early hours of this Tuesday (19) the simultaneous and proportional distribution to the 92 municipalities of the state will begin. Before, the vaccines will be cataloged at the Distribution Center of the State Department of Health, in Niterói.

Then the cars, trucks and vans will be used in the logistics of distribution to the cities. The operation will also have the support of five state helicopters (Military Police, Civil Police and Firefighters) so that the vaccine reaches the most distant cities in the shortest possible time.

This Monday morning (18), in São Paulo, Castro participated in a meeting that brought together the governors and the Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, when he received the 487,520 doses of the immunizer destined for the state of Rio de Janeiro. Last Sunday (17), the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) approved the emergency use in Brazil of the CoronaVac and Oxford / Astrazeneca vaccines.

Historic day

Mayor Axel Grael assured that the city is ready to start the vaccination process with all the necessary supplies.

“Today was a historic day. We will start the vaccination in Niterói as soon as possible. Even with the vaccine, it is important that people continue to receive proper care. Even with the entire population vaccinated, we still have a few months to go. It is essential that you continue to take care to avoid crowds “, stressed the mayor.

The Secretary of Health, Rodrigo Oliveira, emphasized that Niterói was the only city that participated, in alliance with the Butantan Institute, in the Phase 3 study of this vaccine that is now available throughout Brazil.

“Our contribution to science made it possible for volunteers, health professionals, to be initially vaccinated and we contributed to this process of this historic moment, when the first Brazilian had the opportunity to be vaccinated. We are ready, ready for logistics, all the supplies distributed in the units ”, the secretary reinforced.

According to the health doctor, at this first moment, Niterói will have 11,400 vaccines available and, in 15 days, 11,400 more will be received, adding up to a little more than 23,000 vaccines.

“With these vaccines we begin the first phase of the national vaccination plan, which is precisely the priority for health professionals, who are more exposed to viruses, who are at the forefront of the fight, in addition to the elderly who are in institutions. long stay. Health professionals can be vaccinated in the unit where they work. The vaccine will be made available to basic units, family doctors and public hospitals. And also in private hospitals ”, he continued.

He said that older people who are in long-term care facilities will be vaccinated in the institutions themselves.

“It is still very important not to go to the health units to receive this vaccine. When the time comes, we will announce it. We will have an application and a strategy for it, avoiding crowds, with security for all. It is a historic moment, full of hope, but we cannot relax with the security protocols ”, he concluded.
