Joseph Safra dies in São Paulo at the age of 82 | Saint Paul

The banker and founder of the Safra Group, Joseph Safra, died on Thursday (10), in São Paulo, at the age of 82.

According to a statement released by Banco Safra’s press office, he died of natural causes.

“It is with immense regret that we report the death, on this date, of Mr. Joseph Safra, 82, from natural causes,” the text says.

The banker is considered the richest man in Brazil, according to the latest ranking of Brazilian billionaires by Forbes Brasil magazine, with an estimated fortune of R $ 119.08 billion.

Joseph Safra was born in 1938 in Lebanon and emigrated to Brazil in the 1960s to continue his father’s business.

In 1969 he married Vicky Sarfaty, with whom he had four children and 14 grandchildren.

As an entrepreneur, he was responsible for building the Safra Group in the world.
